Well, Apple and Digidesign, tomorrow is April… March 31, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Pro Tools , add a commentYet another month passes with no real indication of when Pro Tools LE will be compatible with Leopard.
When will Pro Tools work with Leopard? No one really seems to know, although the last indication from Digidesign said maybe April. (more…)

Video: Drum Editing in Digidesign Pro Tools LE March 12, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Editing, Pro Tools , add a commentThis is a new video, and the problem seems to be solved.
Once you’ve watched our videos on grouping tracks and the introduction to keyboard focus, you are ready to learn drum editing in Pro Tools. I show two types of edits The first is a multi-track edit to fix the timing across all the drums. The second replaces a bad snare drum hit.

This is the fastest way to edit in Pro Tools, and anyone using Pro Tools will benefit greatly from learning these skils. In this video, I cover zooming, creating fades, trimming regions, and nudging. An Update from Digidesign on Pro Tools LE + Leopard compatibility March 4, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Pro Tools , 20commentsI know we have made a lot of posts on this.. but we have another update from Digidesign. This time its a slightly apologetic message on the front page of Digidesign.com.
Digidesign says that they are working hard to get Pro Tools LE compatible with Leopard, and that they are sorry for our frustration. It is nice to see that they acknowledge that this is a big deal for Pro Tools LE, and that many users are really starting to get antsy.
Get ready to wait a little longer for Pro Tools and Leopard compatibility… March 3, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Pro Tools , add a commentWhen will Pro Tools LE be compatible with Leopard?
Well, we’ve been waiting since October… and it looks like we will be waiting until April.
Both Digidesign and a few of the big pro audio retailers are hinting that Pro Tools LE will not be compatible with (the latest version of) Leopard until April or later.
Digidesign releases 7.4cs3 for Pro Tools LE March 1, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Pro Tools , 2commentsWell, we did not get the big announcement from Digidesign that Pro Tools now works on Leopard.
But, we did get something. And Digidesign did not announce this, rather, I just found it on their updates page. Obviously I doubt this is the “big fix”, as they would have told us… but it confuses me why Digidesign would release a small bug fix update when they are “on the verge” of making the giant Leopard release.
Digidesign has released Pro Tools 7.4cs3 (customer service pack 3). Supposedly this fixes some problems that 003 users were having with pops and clicks when monitoring all inputs, as well as a few other small bugs (with automation thinning and others). I am going to install this today and I will post my results.
Will Pro Tools LE have Leopard compatibility tomorrow? (ummm, Today? errrr… nope.) February 29, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Pro Tools , 11commentsEDIT: Pro Tools is fully compatible with Leopard. Click here for details.
Digidesign has announced on the DUC (Digidesign User Conference forums) that their website will be down from 4pm-12pm PST today, February 29th.
Now, when Apple shuts down their website, they almost always come back the next day with an announcement of new gear. That makes me think they they may be releasing the Leopard-compatible version of Pro Tools LE. Obviously, I can NOT confirm any of this, but seems like a decent speculation.
I would strongly suggest that everyone check the Digidesign website after midnight PST.
Digidesign Virtual Instruments box set updated (for Leopard) February 28, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Virtual Instruments , add a commentHmm… maybe this is old news, but I just learned about it today.
Anyone who uses Pro Tools with Digidesign (AIR) instruments in Leopard has probably seen the “yellow interface” problem before. For some reason, Strike, Velvet, Hybrid, and even XPand had an odd, bright yellow interface window in Leopard. This made working with the synths literally impossible. (Structure has been running without this yellow interface for most people.) There is an update available from Digidesign for each of the four programs mentioned above that will supposedly fix the interface problems.
We are still waiting on Digidesign and Leopard compatibility February 28, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Pro Tools , 3commentsEDIT: Pro Tools is fully compatible with Leopard. Click here for details.
For those of you still waiting for Leopard and Digidesign Pro Tools to be compatible, hopefully the wait will not be much longer…
Users are having the most success on Leopard 10.5.1 with Pro Tools 7.4cs2. Some people are running 10.5 or 10.5.2 with success, but for the most part, if you have to run your Pro Tools rig in Leopard, I would suggest 10.5.1. Supposedly the update is coming soon…
Logic Studio and Leopard 10.5.1 and 10.5.2 February 22, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Digidesign, Leopard, Logic Studio 8 , 7commentsThis is for people using Logic Studio with an Apple computer running Leopard. It also applies to people trying to run Digidesign hardware (or even Pro Tools) with Logic Studio.
Even for people not running Digidesign hardware, a lot of problems seem to be emerging when Logic Studio users upgrade to 10.5.2. Most notably, MainStage is completely unusable by some in 10.5.2 (although many people also report slight problems with 10.5.1 as well). Also, Logic Studio seems to not use resources properly, with constant spikes and errors. This is not true for all people, but many are running into these problems.
Digidesign Core Audio Leopard Problems (Logic too) February 17, 2008

If you cannot get Pro Tools to open or are having problems with Logic Studio 8 crashing on startup, read on!
If Logic or Pro Tools is crashing, it could very well be a problem with a ReWire plug-in (Reason, Melodyne, etc.) (more…)
Apple Releases Leopard 10.5.2 February 11, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Apple, Digidesign, Leopard , 7commentsEDIT: Pro Tools is now fully qualified with Leopard. Click here for more information.
A much-awaited release from Apple finally came out today. The 10.5.2 Leopard update fixes TONS of bugs and errors that existed in 10.5.1
There are fixes in many applications (including iCal, Time Machine, Mail, etc) as well as bug fixes and visual improvements to the OS overall. But… [drum roll please] it supposedly also provides fixes for problems in Core Audio. !Ding Ding Ding! So, all the pro audio people are getting excited. Perhaps soon, updated versions of Pro Tools (and other DAWs) will become available. Supposedly many DAW manufacturers, including Digidesign, were waiting until 10.5.2 to release their updates. Be sure to Time Machine before installing big updates like this!

Click to see our page on Logic Studio compatibility with the Leopard update (10.5.1 vs. 10.5.2)
NOTICE: Pro Tools HD is now compatible with 10.5.1, so hopefully Pro Tools LE will be as well. But, I would suggest that Pro Tools LE users NOT upgrade to 10.5.2 yet. This is not only in case Digidesign only approves LE for 10.5.1 (which they probably will not), but mainly because users are reporting additional problems with 10.5.2. If you have everything working on 10.5.1, do not upgrade. If you did upgrade, hopefully you have a Time Machine backup, or you could just reinstall.

Apple Leopard and Digidesign Compatibility January 29, 2008
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Apple, Digidesign, Pro Tools , 11commentsFor Pro Tools versions before v.8, see below.
So… if any Pro Tools user is like me and just couldn’t wait to get their hands on a new Mac (which of course now comes with the Leopard OS), you are probably having some compatibility issues.Currently, Pro Tools is NOT supported or even technically compatible with Leopard. On top of that, the new Mac Pro’s are not supposed to be able to run Tiger (although there is a tricky work around… I would be happy to talk anyone through it via email).
