Hi PJ, I really appreciate the instructions and posts above. I just had my mechine give me a HD error message. My mechine 8yr old , BR-1180cd has worked well for me so I want to use your instructions and try to replace the hard drive. I looked at the site you suggested in Post #4. They are no longer available. What are folks using that fit in the mechine? Thanks in advance for any suggestions from anyone.
Peace, Bobby

You really need to check out Reaper.

I've got 3 or 4 of the other packages and end up using Reaper because it is easy, but powerful, all the way to syncing video and sound tracks.

Hi, I'm not sure but I would guess that the easiest way would be to save your sessions to an external hard drive and take the drive with you then click on the .ptf file and open it from the other computer. I use a laptop computer so I can take my work anywhere easily. Of course you would have to have access to hardware at the new location or take your MBox or other similar type gadget with you.

Hi!

Im using PT8.03 / Mbox2 on a HP HPE-330sc Pavilion Elite:

Chipset: Intel PCH 2

OS: Win7 64bit

When I start PT, I get a DAE error 1115. After reading up on several forums, I've entered BIOS and turned off firewire and network card, and I've switched off IE8 (though not uninstalled it as of yet). Can any1 pls point me in ANY direction to get this solved?

I formatted an 80 GB HDD FAT32, replaced the 20GB that had gone south in my unit and it comes up "drive error". When I try to initialize it it comes up "HDD write error". I called Boss Tech Support and they say it sounds like another bad hard drive, and that you're not supposed to put larger than a 40GB hard drive in it. I'm wondering if it's something else and if I'll be wasting my money buying a new hard drive for it. Any suggestions? I just passed up another Boss 1180CD for $50 doing the same thing on ebay.Any help would be appreciated...I can't afford to buy another unit right now.

Is there any way in which you can export multiple tracks to an OMF file, but not the entire project. Say I would just want 20 minutes of my project, not the full hour. What would be the best way to do it?

I haven't had this error before but now my BR 1180 shows "error" says that the new blank cd is full - what is the best work around for this? What are the best recordable cd's to use for these units? Thank you, Kevin

HI I had a quick question on Pro tools le 8 cs3. I am trying to use the virtual instruments such as boom, grand piano, xpand, etc that come with the pro tools creative collection, but when I go to bring them up in the insert column I cant find them. I've even went and got the vst to rtas adapter to find all vst on my computer but to no avail. I do remember when I 1st installed pro tools on my comp. I had to do something with the plug-ins folder due to it freezing at the load up screen, Well I the advice of the fix, and it successfully worked, but now that I have grown in my usage of pro tools and want to utilize plug-ins. They are no where to be found. I see that in my digidesign folder (c:\program files\digidesign) the plug-ins are available in the creative collections folder, but once it comes to real usage of them, its a no go. I would appreciate if you could explain to me, 1st the normal procedure of using virtual instruments in PT sessions. 2ndly, If by moving the creative folder through the fix I followed during my pro tools load up freeze, could I have moved it from its normal location. I am a new user to the pro tools line and it could be a very simple answer to this question. I also remember all the glitches and installation obstacles I've had to overcome just to get my Pt 8 up and running so one more obstacle wouldn't be far fetched! I'm running PT 8 on Xp sp3 4g Ram 2.8 ghz. I new to using threads too, so if I wasn't detailed in explaining the problem excuse me. Any help would be greatly appreciated, let me know if you need more info on the prob.

I took the old HDD out, did the freezer thing, used an external box to download the drive onto the computer, formatted an 80GB HDD Fat32 then moved the previous drives files back onto the 80GB drive. I installed it into the BR1180-CD and turned it on. It cam on, loaded, checked and I got a normal screen, pushed the utility button, tried to select a song and got HDD ERROR. I tried to initialize the HDD and got HDD WRITE ERROR. The drive read and worked fine in my PC. I'm going to take it back out, reformat it and leave it blank and try reinstalling it on the BR 1180-CD. I don't know what else to do. My CD burner works fine unless it's saving that for a nasty little surprise after I get the HDD working. Anyone have an idea of what's going on? Am I doing something wrong and the Boss imps are enjoying a joke at my expense? Any thought, suggestions etc. are welcomed. PJ, this article was very good for the initial task of changing the hard drive. Now if I can just get it to actually use it, I'll be a happy camper...but I'm starting to look longingly back at my old Tascam 4 track Cassette Studio at this point. I've also got a Fostex MR-8 and a Yamaha MD-8 that are looking accusingly at me with an "I told you so" leer. I got to make this work...too poor to buy new toys. Help me guys...please.
