Sorry I’ve been absent from articles lately… grad school is getting the better of my time right now.

I’m still trying to answer comments and any email anyone sends me, so please keep them coming.  I go on break soon, and I should be able to start up some new articles and videos.

Send any ideas for videos and articles you’d like to see my way!

3 Questions.

1. What kind of education are you going to grad school for?

2. Do you have a routine for dealing with the latency caused by an MBox or the H/W Buffer Size setting?

3. For mixing, any more ideas to make the kick drum and bass guitar play nice together?

Howdy -

I’m getting my MM:SRT (Master of Music in Sound Recording Technology) from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.

The MBox has an input/output mix knob (for direct monitoring), or I would suggest lowering the buffer as low as possible. (128 on an MBox right?)

#3 is a hard one to answer on the internet. Its a matter of getting the volume, EQ, and compression just right so that each sits in its own space (frequency rather than “acoustic space” sense). This article will get you started

Feel free to email me mp3′s of examples so I can make more specific suggestions.
