In this video from the studio files .com, I will show you how to automate your tempo in Pro Tools LE. Here I have a loop programmed in (with a Pop Brass from XPand). I’ll play it for you at the original tempo. I have the metronome going so that you can really hear the tempo. Now, let’s say that the second time that played through, I wanted it to go a lot slower. I need to automate a tempo change. Do that by first dropping down the tempo menu. There are two ways to resize the tempo window (click and drag here) or you can click the plus and minus sign to zoom in and out. Now to insert a tempo change, use the pencil tool. Now go to bar four and click. It inserted a tempo change to quarter note = 115 (which is not what I want). So, go to the grabber tool, and if you put your cursor on the tempo line, it will change. And drag up or down to adjust the tempo (be sure to watch the number up top). Now we will play it back and listen. I did it in Grid mode just to make the tempo changes more regular and “cleaner”, but you can do this in any edit mode.

Hi studio files. site is always great. Question. Pro tools Le 7.3.1, I mac intel , as far as tempo changes i could never get it to work right. i never use midi all regular instruments. now that i ran across the video i saw how it is done “But” will it work the same way for regular “wave” files not midi. if so i guess i will wait for the answer if not can it be done and how?
Audio files can be time-manipulated, but it requires some creative use of Elastic Audio (only in PT 7.4 or later)
