Help me help you! April 13, 2009
Posted by ConnorSmith in : Computers, General Announcements , trackbackI’ve been getting a lot of emails lately on computer problems/DAWs crashing/etc. Please keep them coming, I’m glad to see systems are working the bugs out (plus it helps me document trends and figure out problems with patches/gear).
We’ve been able to solve a high percentage of problems, but often it takes 2-3 emails back and forth before we have all the information available to help.
If you are emailing us (or even posting in the comments) about a problem you are having, please include the following information, as it will make it possible to help you:
- Computer OS (which version of windows, leopard, tiger, etc.)
- Computer specs (processors, RAM, HDDs, firewire cards, etc.) – if its a Mac, let me know if its a Mac Pro, MacBook, iMac, etc
- Which DAW and what version (i.e. say “Pro Tools 8.0cs2″ not just “Pro Tools”)
- What interface you are using
- What plug-ins/VIs do you have installed
(more below the fold)
If you are having problems installing programs, let us know if its a clean install or not (did you uninstall the previous version).
If its a Pro Tools problem, did you try trashing your preferences and databases?
You can never give me too much information on your system. The more specific you can be, the better. In addition to helping you a lot faster, the information allows me to document which systems are having specific problems, so its faster to help others in the same boat later on.
Thanks!

I’m having a BIG problem Installing Pro Tools LE 8
It’s freezing up during the Installation Process… I dont even get off the first pop up screen. Once load the CD up and click install… it instantly freezes…
I’m using Windows XP
Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor
2 GB of Ram and 500 GB Hard Drive
I am having problems loading Pro Tools 8 on a PC. Have tried it twice now (starting again from scratch the 2nd time). I have installed it…then says I need to restart before I run it. When I restart and run the program, it freezes while loading “Structure.dpm”. My specs-
Digi 002 Rack
PC with AD Athlon Duo Core Processor
2MB Ram
1 TB Hard Drive with about 80 gigs full
Thanks inn advance for any help!
Scott
Oh for my post about I am running Windows XP Pro
I hace the same problem, my computer stops at Structure.cpm.
I have a
PC Q6600
4gb Ram
Windows xp 32 (for prot tools)
Vista 64 and windows 7 also
@Scott and Dom
Did you trash preferences and databases?
Do you have any third party plug-ins or virtual instruments installed?
Have you checked the Windows XP compatibility pages on Digidesign.com to make sure your processor and applicable chipsets are compatible?
@ConnerSmith
If it helps I had the same problem. Tried all options as above and more which didn’t work.
Eventually, I removed a USB hard drive for some reason. Started Protools and Bang, straight to the Authorise screen.
I’m trying to install Pro Tools 8 on a Windows XP machine 300 GB hard drive dual cpu 1.86 mhz service packs 3 installed. I completely uninstalled version 7 drivers and all. My install freezes at structure.dpm I’M Pissed is there any way around this problem?
I have had my Protools 8 loaded now for about 6 months and just recently it will freeze when loading a session. It is always at a different point too. I run WIn XP Pro with 4 Gigs of RAM and a Pentium 2.4 Quadcore.
Just wondering if any of you guys figured out the issue on PT8 freezing while loading at “structure.dpm” The issue has to do with Internet Explorer 8. To fix the issue you have to unistall IE8
More info here: http://duc.digidesign.com/showthread.php?t=243183
To save you some time from getting frustrated with another issue you will run into with unistalling IE8, If you are running windows XP with SP3 you cannot unistall IE8 without uninstalling SP3 first.
So I just installed Pro Tools 8 and I am having the same problem as others. It freezes at Structure.dpm. This doesn’t have anything to do with Internet Explorer because I dont have any IE installed at all. I had 8 installed. PT didn’t work so I uninstalled IE8 and it still didn’t work so I just completely took IE off my computer. Still nothing. Any Ideas now?
If you’ve uninstalled 8 correctly, it should be ok but it is to do with IE8. I haven’t installed any previous version of IE and have gone with Google Chrome. Everything is okay with that.
Don’t forget to reboot the computer (as always!!)
Suggest following what Digidesign say about removing the databases as well just to be sure. Protools will recreate them on startup.
I’m using Windows XP Pro SP3 and have updated Protools 8 to CS3.
Im using windows xp SP3 as well. I restarted after each uninstall. Its not IE. I finally just removed structure from the plugins folder and it will start now. It definitly is not IE though. In my case that is.
Alexmc1988- Are you running XP media center edition SP3? Just curious.
Its just XP SP3. its not media center.
8.0.1 (HD) update failed the first attempt, but tried again right away and it worked…. (10.5.8 9L31a).
Hello, I am having the same problems as Pony Hill where after installation, on the initial boot-up Pro Tools freezes on structure.dpm. I have not even gotten to the authorization page. I am also running a Dell but it is a Dimension 4600. It has an Intel Pentium 4 2.80 GHz with 2 Gbs of Ram. It is windows XP 32-bit Professional, 2002 version, with service pack 3. I have an educational version of the Mbox 2 with Pro Tools 8.0.1 and I have not installed any other plug-ins than what have come with the Mbox 2. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it already.
I am away from my computer right now, but there is a solution to the structure.dpm issue. I will post the work around that digi support gave. You have to add an entry to the registry to allow cookies. If the entry isn’t there it blocks structure.
open regedit by going to start-run and type regedit. navidgate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
In the white space on the right hand side right-click and select New – DWORD Value. Name it AllowCookies make sure you have a capital A and C with no spaces. Double click that and type 1 in the value info. Close regedit and try running Pro Tools again. This is an old setting IE 5 and 6 would put in the registry, but 7 and 8 do not. I believe IE8 wipes it out. For some reason they made it so that the plugin checks for this value in the registry when it is loading in case it has to be authenticated. Makes little sense why they did it this way, but it does work. You can even run IE8 if you want, you just have to make sure the registry key is changed after you upgrade to IE8. Post on here if it worked for you, I would like to know.
It didn’t work for me.
windows xp sp 3
media center ed
clean install pt8
4gb ram
intel core2duo 2ghz
dell xps1710 laptop (tried it on my wife’s inspiron too and nothing)
the only solution is to uninstall structure. so i should get some money back right? i am not getting all of the products i paid for
haven’t tried the downgrade to IE7.
but to mee we shouldnt do that. at this $$ it should work no buts
It doesn’t work in media center edition. It isn’t a supported OS.
Hi,
I have a Windos XP SP2
AMD 2400 +
1,68GHz, 2 GB
40 GB HDD
I bought ProTools 8 LE today and it Freezes on “Welcome to ProTools LE”
Help me out please.
I use PTLE801 and have the above issue with a freeze while loading structure.dpm. Adding the registry entry did not help. Uninstalling IE8 did solve the problem. I upgraded to IE7 and still everything seems to be working.
Note that I am also using XP64, so it does look like PTLE8 does have some basic XP64 support although Digidesign does not yet officially support it.
im trying to install pro tools 7, but it wont work….it keeps freezing up at the end of the install process….please tell me what i should do
I have installed LE8, but I can not get it to launch. My computer freezes up part way through. I have a MacBook2.1
Can someone help!!!????? I have been trying to install Pro Tools LE 8 but the DVD driver doesnt recognize the installation DVD. Works fine with the rest of the cds and other DVDs.
The dvd does not run and i cant open it either.
…………….
Windows XP Home Edition, SP2 build 2600
Pentium 4, 3.06GHz
2GB Ram
To all having problems with DVD recognition:
I have not heard of this problem. I will check around to see if anyone has info on it. In the meantime, I would check Digidesign.com and Duc.digidesign.com for answers
Also –
If you are asking a question about a computer setup, please follow the guidelines in this article (the one posted above…) or it will be impossible to diagnose.
@John
That’s most likely a plug-in problem. Do you have any third party plug-ins installed?
@John
Have you tried trashing your preferences?
Did you do a clean install of PT8?
Here’s how you trash prefs:
http://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/ts/detail.php?Index=31080
I would also double check to make sure you only have the basic Pro Tools plug-ins installed as well.
since windows xp media center edition is not supported by PT Le 8.0, does anyone know if its a for sure no-go or just not optimal performance? I bought it thinking that it worked for media center edition but obviously it isn’t supported so im thinkling about changing os before it comes next week…
I would change your OS if you have the option.
If it works at all, it will likely be buggy. We’ve seen a lot of people having big problems with that combo.
Alrighty, thanks for your help!
hey thanks for that site it was just what i needed
@ connor hey I got a mbox 2 mini and i’m trying to record on stereo but its only recording on one input what could that be do you understand my question?
@John
Can you give me some more information about your system (look at the guidelines I mention in the article above) – that will help me a lot.
Also, it may be helpful if you can take a screen shot or video shot of your session and email it to me.
Can you tell me a little more about how your recording is setup – what are you recording, which mics are you using, what do you have them plugged into, etc.?
ok thanks will do man what is your email address
@john
Check the tab at the top labeled “Who We Are” – my email is in there. (I don’t like to post it in comments because spam bots pick it up… yuck!)
i gotta say that i am having the same issues and ProTools should really create a fix for this. Not really sure what to do next. i tried cleaning out via the sweetwater, but that didnt work. i removed structure and it hung up on Xpand.
I guess the next thing to try is to delete IE8 but i am running SP3 and i dont know how to uninstall it correctly.
I am just suprised this isnt easier.
I was having issues re-installing protools 7 and I was told when I purchased 8 this would take care of it. However, I am having the same issue with the structure.dpm freezing when launching for the first time. I am not a techie thus I can’t tell if in fact I have IE8 or 7 as I hear that this takes care of the issue. I need to know:
How to check to see which Internet Explorer is on my system?
How to fix this Structure.dpm problem?
How the hell to get this to work?
@MEL
In order to diagnose, I am going to need more info. Please check the guidelines at the top of this page and give me some more info (specifically on OS version, Pro Tools version, 3rd party plugs, preferences, etc.)
@ Connor I’m trying to record on protools version8 and I hear a lagg or echo if you would in my head sets do you have any suggestions??
hey my name is shaila i cant seem to get my pro tools LE 8 to setup properly on windows Xp it keeps freezing when installing it says it takes a half hour but it stays on one bar and then says PACEREGISTER error when loadind audio drivers and then shuts down my friend rebooted my system i have check compatibility its all good and i have changed IE8 to IE7 so i havent a clue from this point this has been happening for nearly 2wks now what else could be the problem my computor is intel core2 chipset 945G 1GB of RAM Service Pack 3 and my graphic controllers are fine could it be i have a faulty MBOX 2 MINI cuz it has also said error on the I/O
@Shaila
Hmmm… Is this a clean install? (aka if you have aq previous version installed, did you uninstall it?)
It also could be the RAM, I thought PT8 had a 2GB requirement.
If not, I would email Digi tech support.
I’m trying to install Pro Tools 8 with a MBox 2 on a laptop:
Windows Vista
Intel Core Dua T5750 2.0GHz 2.0GHz
4 GB of RAM
64Bit Operating System
This a clean install. I’m following the instruction manual step by step (for once) and the install keeps stalling at a screen that says “Pro Tools 8.0 is configuring your new software installation.” There is another little window that says “installing DigiDesign hardware drivers.” At this point it stalls and I’ve left it sit for over an hour before and it still stalls. ANy help would be greatly appreciated.
@Tom
This may sound weird, but I would let it sit longer. Maybe even up to 2-3 hours. PT8 installs are notorious for taking FOREVER sometimes. If that doesn’t work, I would email digidesign tech support directly, and give them this same info. There are definitely a lot of people having this problem, but as of yet, I haven’t found a “fix all” solution, other than the lucky percentage who have success through unreasonable waiting periods.
Good luck!
@ ConnorSmith
Thanks… I’ll give it a try and let it sit longer… just seems like it’s not doing anything at all though. The computer isn’t even making any noises to make me think it is still trying to install anything.
@Tom
Yeah when I had the “stall” problem, my computer was dead quiet, basically like it was off. After a really long wait, it just progressed finally… That being said, there are a lot of people whose system never moves on.
OK SO I’M HAVING TROUBLE INSTALLING MY PRO TOOLS 8 LE. IT JUST FREEZES AFTER ABOUT 10-15% OF THE INSTALLATION PROCESS. I HAVE A TOSHIBA L45-S2416. PROCESSOR-INTEL m cpu 520 @ 1.60 GHz. MEMORY(RAM) 1015MB. SYSTEM TYPE-32IT OPERATING SYSTEM. USING WINDOWS VISTA. HOPE YOU CAN HELP
Ok I have a gateway; Athlon 64 x2; 4GB ram; Windows Xp; SP3; No IE8; the problem is the following: my pro tools wont install it takes a hell of a lot to launch the setup and after it does the progress bar freezes a the first bar, the after 3 hours the bars are at 10, and it freezes every time i try to install it. Frankly this is obserd PLEASE HELP!!!
@Frustrated
Is this a clean install of PT8? (aka is it either a new install/did you uninstall your old version of PT)
@Jose
Sometimes the install can take a LONG time. I would let it sit even longer. (Maybe up to 8+ hours…) We don’t know why it takes so long, but some of The Studio Files visitors have reported extremely long load times.
@ConnorSmith
I am having the same problem as Jose above. I have the same laptop as him, except i have Vista instead of Windows XP. I have let it sit there and load for 7 hours, but it stays at around 10% when it says it is “Installing Digidesign Hardware Drivers”. Do you suppose this might be because I have Vista, or do you think it would be the same result.
Thanks in advance!
@LOGANBOI
It could be – can you let us know more about your system (processor, specs, specific OS, etc.) That will help shed some light.
What would third party plug ins be? I’m using a computer that has a vpn and remote desk top control on it. Windows xp pro, 2.99 ram
@ConnorSmith
Ive been having the DVD drive recognition problem like a few others have, only i am able to get to the setup.exe icon. i click on it and everything is working fine but after about five minutes this message pops up

Ive got pro tools on 4 different computers. all built by me.
Pro tools 6 upgraded all the way to 7.4 with digi rack002 on xp SP3. Perfect.
Protools 8 on an asus laptop running mbox mini on vista SP2. Perfect.
Latest new build. Pro tools 8/Mbox mini. On a new quadcore CPU with XP SP3/IE8…knocked it back to SP2,& got rid of IE8. Still freezes on welcome. All this with firewall disable,antivirus swithced off,nothing running at start up..all auto updates updates disabled.
This problem seems to be almost entirely unrelated to O/S,IE’s etc,theres just too many instances with completely different set-ups etc.
These reg edits…come on,is anyone telling ,me that digidesign are sat drinking coffee while people that buy a PC from BestBuy are having to regecit??? I dont think so.
Digidesign need to go and get a DVD of PT8.0 and sit down with a variety of set-ups and figure out a fix for this seemingly widespread problem..
Personally,i think its daft that these posts are spread accross virtually a year and digi havent figured out a fix….
What is needed is the definitive fix…ive seen about 7 different ‘solutions’ on here. None of them work for all. Thats bad news. How much software has anyone got that needs to be messed with before it will work.
I remember when i loaded pro tools 7 onto a new build…trhe roll back from SP3 to 2 worked a treat.Then digi sorted it. This seems to be a bit tricky….
Come on Dig-people.
BTW you blokes on here…
thanks for providing a much needed service in this world of loads of rubbish customer support!!
all the best
TB
@Everyone
Hi guys/gals.
The best way to get a response out of Digidesign is to do some of the following:
1) (Respectfully) email Digidesign tech support with ALL of your system data and a detailed report of what is happening (as well as everything you’ve tried)
2) Start a thread on Duc.Digidesign.com with the same criteria^^
One of the reasons people have problems getting answers from Digidesign is because they often go about it the wrong way (this is not to say that this is the behavior of anyone here). Too many people just send angry emails/forum posts that say “PRO TOOLS SUCKS!! RARH!!” which helps no one.
Unfortunately Pro Tools is a very old and complicated program. Couple that with the near-limitless configurations of Windows machines (hardware, software, Mobos, OS, etc.) and add in the large number of bugs on those machines, and its fairly easy to see why
Digi sometimes has a problem with Windows compatibility.
@Eric
Third party plug-ins are any plug-ins or virtual instruments you’ve purchased that are not from Digidesign.
Everyone,
As i said above. It is NOT your O/S.
I just spoke to a bloke at Digi yesterday.
The problem that you get with the hanging on install/empty’welcome to pro tools’ window/leave it overnight and it will setup…………etc
Nooo!
Its a problem with optical reading.
Do what i did:
1)register your product
2)phone them on the freephone number(make sure you have an hour,a cup of tea made and the radio on,and phone on speakerphone.
Eventually a nice man from digidesign will confirm what i said and tell you hes sending you a link to download (presumably) a slightly ammended/patched version of LE 8.0
The bloke was well used to this problem.
I will say that Digi generally are pretty good at sorting you out (See Also : Corroded power connector in Digi002 about 3 years ago)
all the best

I’m trying to install Pro Tools 8 on a Windows XP My install freezes at structure.dpm is there any way around this problem?
I’m trying to install Pro Tools 8 on a Windows XP completely uninstalled x4 My install freezes at structure.dpm is there any way around this problem?
I’m having the same problem that many of you are having with the structure.dpm.
I have tried everything except uninstalling the structure plug-in, because much like others have mentioned, it seems a waste of money to not have it.
The most progress I made in the installation was when I registered everything on digidesigns website. After that, pro tools still froze at structure.dpm so I installed all of the other things on the pro tools install disk – including the third party plug ins.
After I did all of that, I Finally got the pro tools authorization screen. But then it froze again at structure.dpm. I’m now trying the regedit thing that was suggested above, I’ll see if it works.
If anyone else has any other suggestions please help. I’ve had pro tools since Christmas, and I’m still having problems with it.
I have a piece of crap computer but it is completely clean. I had the entire hard drive wiped.
Windows XP
1.48 GB RAM
an entirely clear hard drive
500 GB external hard drive
2002 e machines computer
what else do you need to know?
Pro tools 8 by the way.
Also, I’m using the m-box but, I have yet to use it because pro tools won’t start up. (but all of the lights are on)
Well, the regedit thing didn’t work. However, right before I restarted the computer, I noticed I do have IE8, so is that the problem? Should I get rid of it?
Trying to install from scratch. Protools LE8 with mbox mini2 on a MacBook Pro O.S 10.6.2- 2.26 GHz, 2GB.
Installed the CD, try to start the program, get onto the start up screen and everything stops at ‘Setting up peripherals- Initializing machine control”, it’s been stuck there for about 5 hours.
hi im havin a problem where upon installing pro tools 8le on my notebook with the mbox mini it freezes on structure.dpm whilst loading,pls advise me where possible.thanks.mike.south africa.
I was having issues with installing Pro Tools just as everyone else has on this forum. You just have to wait for a while for it to finishing loading. But once I installed and it and clicked on create blank presentation it acts like its loading a new presentation but it never actually loads. Does anyone no why this might be or has anyone witnessed this problem before???
wut all do u need to install pro tools 8 onto a apple mac ibook
I have mine installed on a brand new iMac that I just got three days ago. So if it can work good on an Mac book then it should work on the computer too. I’m just getting very frustrated with this software and have made no progress. And on top of everything else Pro Tools tech support is not even open on the weekends.
I’m trying to install ProTools 8.0 before I can then install ProTools 8.0.3 because that is all that will run on Windows 7. When I run the 8.0 “Setup” everything goes fine and then I get a message sayings “Installing Digidesign hardware drivers” and setup will not advance further than that I let it sit a couple of hours last night.

I installed my pro tools PT8 and it has worked for me in the past.
However, now for some reason every time I try and open Pro Tools, the loading screen stops at the XPand!.dpm plug in every single time, and the program then says its not responding. So I went in and updated the XPand plug in, and nothing changed.
I have a macbook pro OS X 10.6.4

500 gb drive
im using the mbox 2 mini as my interface and it is a clean copy of PTLE8
Thanks!
Macbook Pro OS X Version 10.5.8
I uninstalled Pro Tools 7 LE…
Installed Pro Tools 8 LE.. (with my mbox2 plugged in)
Everything looks smooth at first. I even ran all the updates but when I bring up Pro Tools it starts to load up and looks like it’s about to work then it just disappears and a box comes up that says “The application Pro Tools LE quit unexpectedly.”
I tried going back to 7 and it does the exact same thing!
Please Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OK… My new copy of Pro Tools 8 LE is not working on my new Mac Mini OS X 10.6.4, 2GB. When I installed I got a whole bunch of 500 errors. I clicked through probably 30 of them… and the end, it said I installed successfully.
When I went to start it, it hangs on start string and says “Starting up peripherals, Initializing Machine control.” Wen to bed… and woke up with this same message and the fancy rainbow spinner spinning.
I’ve been trying to get Pro Tools to work for over a month on my PC (upgraded OS, Memory and still got Cache overflow errors) … so I went out yesterday and purchased the Mac Mini… just for this program.
I’m frustrated beyond belief. Please help!
ok, i had no problems installing pro tools LE 8.0.03… the problem i’m getting is that, maybe, 2 minutes after opening it, i get the spinning beach ball of death and i have to force quit every time. i’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but i get the same problem.
i’m using Macbook Pro OSX version 10.6.4
2.4 GHz Intel Core i5 processor
is this an issue with protools, or an issue with my computer?
i’m at my wits end.
Losing my mind. I’m trying to install pt 8 on a mac mini running. 10.5.8 and a black MacBook running the same. Well. Neither installers get past the first beachball. Please send me an email before I snap! Thanks!
Guys, the solution is very simple, it takes about 3 seconds to fix.
Instructions to modify internet settings
1. Open Regedit (from Run Window enter “regedit” press OK)
2. In Regedit browse to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
3. Right click on the empty space in the right hand side of Registry Editor window and choose New > DWORD Value
4. Name the DWORD AllowCookies and press enter
5. Double click on the AllowCookies DWORD and enter 1 in the Value Data field then press OK
6. Launch Pro Tools
Copied from here:
http://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=289041#ModSettings
It works. As I said, it immediately solves the issue.
Good luck!
Hi, I read some of the emails above and even though I fo not understand all your advices, want to try.
I bought Pro Tools LE together with Mboxmini and try to install. When doing so, one error message came up: telling me that Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 redistributable was not able to be installed.
all other installation went well.
I am working with a new Sony notebook. Windows 7; 4 GB RAM and Intel i3 processor. I just bought it on Saturday.
The mbox mini won’t be recognized by ProTools LE. I will even not be able to open pro tools le. During the opening process, the program asks me to plug in the Mboxmini, though it is already plugged. So, I guess it does not recognize it.
Do you have any idea, what could I try?
Kind regards,
Claudia

after that it just sits there and nothing happend. From my understanding I should see a screen that I get to select to install pro tools I cant even get to the first screen to even began installation . . Am I the only one with this problem ?
OS: Snow Leopard 10.6.6
Quad-Core Intel Xeon @ 2.66 GHz
MacPro4, 1, Ram 3 Gb, Hard disk 640 Gb. 1 Accel Core, 2 HD Accel in the expansion ports.
ProTools HD 8.0.3 with a 192 interface.
Plugins: Digirack, Waves, Bomb Factory, Trillium Lane, Maserati, Reason, among others.
I’m having a little problem with my Digi CoreAudio Manager. Whenever I open it and use it with Youtube or Itunes, and I later try to open ProTools, ProTools will freeze and pop up a window that says “Could not complete your request because an access violation has occured”. So, I have to quit everything that involves the Digicore audio manager (internet or itunes) so I can be able to open ProTools.
And, when I open ProTools, before internet or itunes, and then try to listen something on youtube or itunes (while protools is still open), for some reason, the digicore audio manager won’t work, unless I quit ProTools.
So, its either protools or core audio.
Its not a huge issue, but it sometimes annoys me a lot. I iwant to be able to listen to something in youtube without having to close my protools session.
Any suggestions?
Big thanks in advance for any help!
-Nat
Natalia, we are also having similar problems in the lab, sometimes even grayscreens that are related to disconnecting the M-Boxes that we use. Maybe someone will chime in here with a solution.
Seems to be a problem with digi drivers and core audio, eh? I’ll keep a look out.

hello i have a problem with a new shure beta 58 mic, it gives me very soft electric shocks when plugged. the setup is very simple: macbook pro + m box2 pro + mic cable + mic
apparently, there is no grounding on my parisian studio. but i have tried with the computer unplugged from the wall as well as the m box 2 pro and still, the mic gives me this shock, very light but annoying. thanks.
Hi I would to ask for some advice if possible. I currently have a boss br1180 studio that I use but it has broken and I am going to try fixing it after reading your post about how to mend it. Thank you. I was wondering what computer software you would suggest for me to get recording on my computer?
Hi!
ProTools 7.4 is not installing, using an Mbox2 Micro. It stalls about two thirds through the install, on “Shared Plug-Ins Install”. I’ve let my system sit in this stall for hours and it never progressed through a full install.
I have:
- dual core 2.2 HP laptop
- 3 gig of RAM
- 400GB hard drive
- no plugins (uninstalled everything)
Can please help?! Thank you

My pro tools 8 keeps freezing when I important a song.. Am I doing something wrong?
MACBOOK PRO. 2010 I5 core. 4 gig ram. OSX 10.6.8
2 issues if you can help me.
1. Loading protools, when the first start up takes place, I get a dozen error codes about AIR plugins. Then is asks me if I want to place them into some un-used folder…
Then from there it moves to the second issue:
2. It hangs on loading periphials. And never loads.
I will add, I had ableton live 8 loaded and when ever I tried to select the output of audio in ableton to the digidesign MBox Mini, it froze the mac…
IS there any help on this? Pro tools told me they are not compatible with dot 8? so, I am not sure. I tried this when the OS was loaded and no updates were done, and the same thing took place.
Any help on this ???

I am trying to install Pro Tools LE 8.0.4 that came with the Pro Tools Mbox Mini. The installaton freezes at “Running Application Files installer script…”
I am wary of trashing preferences and databases/ wavecache because i really dont know what this stuff is or does and I’m afraid i will lose access to my plugins. Is this a rational fear? How can I get past the “Running Application Files installer script…” screen? Thanks, my computer info is below.

*Plug-ins: Too many to list, hundreds. I bought this computer and it had a bunch of probably hacked plug-ins on it. I want to make sure that I don’t erase them though while installing protools!!!
** Also noteworthy, this computer had protools HD installed at some point and it was probably used a bunch, but now Protools HD is nowhere to be found. I may have uninstalled it and forgotten.
I have a gateway one running windows vista , My computer is not reconizing my pro tools le8 . It keeps telling me to install a cd. All of my other CDs work. PLease help.
Hi,
Im at my wits end with protools atm… i have an mbox 2 and an imac with OSX Snow Leopard 10.6 and im also using logic 9..
All that set aside, i cant even get into protools, it immediately comes up with an error and doesnt open at all. The version of the protools disc that came with my mbox 2 is Protools LE7.
Ive tried different drivers, updates you name it.
Although it says during one of the updates that i actually need to buy protools 9 for it to work with snow leopard.
Do i actually need to buy this $300 program or am i missing something?
And can i use my mbox 2 interface if i actually need to buy this program?
Any help in how to get it working for me would be greatly appreciated.
i think the best thing is window 7.alot of people have been having problems with the mac os and xp.also pro tools 8 and 9 are the best pro tools out right now,and the new m-boxes are better.upgrade your systems to a newer version.
VINIEP,
Short answer is, you have to go to at least LE 8. Check out compatibility here:

You’ll be much happier wit a newer version of PT.

Do you mean that Vista is not recognizing the install CD?
Here is the Avid compatibility grid. With Vista it depends on your Service Pack as to which version of LE 8 will work:

I have a MacBook pro and am installing Pro-Tools LE 8 and running an Mbox 2 for the first time. Loading Pro-Tools for the first time, I am finding that it gets stuck on “Creating DAE Objects”. It just gets stuck here for ages. Is this normal when you try to open it for the first time?
Joel,
What OS are you running?
Hi Damon
I am running Snow Leopard. I had to give up my previous Mbox which only ran the Pro-Tools LE 7 series as it wouldn’t run on Snow Leopard.
Cheers

Hi, I’ve been using the follow recording system: M-box 2 pro running Pro tools 8.0 on a iMac 2,66Hz – 2GB ram ddr2 – 320Gb SD and everything was running well (this model:A1224, discontinued, bought in 2009, has to firewire ports, one 400, other 800) I used the 400 with the original M-box.
Unfortunately my computer was stolen from my small studio and my problem is: since I have the m-box 2 pro and the pro tools 8.0 dvds and documentation, can I use this system on the recent iMacs that only have firewire ports 800? Does the system works with the new OS Lion? Does the firewire adaptators realy work? I’ve been searching on forums and the AVID compatability informations but no evident solution was found and a new imac is some investment to me. Please give some help.
Vitor
