2. ConnorSmith - December 5, 2008

Hi -
I haven’t seen that problem before… hmm

I’m actually on a trip for a gig right now, I will be back at my Pro Tools rig on Sunday, I can investigate further then
Thanks

Hi studio files.I have pro tools LE 7.3.1 running on i mac intel tiger 10.4.11. its tiger if the 10 .4.11 is not correct. i did have small problems which you guys always got me thru. i did not up grade to leopard due to all the problems that today is still going on. my set up is running super after i did a clean out and re install of what i had.
Question;I always want to keep up on up dates but how far back am i staying at LE7.3.1 .and what does the upgrade do better. ?is it really worth up grading. any more power ,quickness or great things in the up grade to have pro tools act faster and better sound.
I use all waves plug ins,i use adl600 pre amp for mic, bass, gut,and out board avalon 747 sp as needed. i do like the waves plug ins and have no problems with them. so the up grade what will it Really” do better for me?

4. Bill - December 7, 2008

Hi again. computers. i am running off of an i mac intel based with 2G memory. i processor as apple says ,i guess it only has the one processor. on tiger i know it is tiger i think it is 10,4,11, now a buddy who has a good size studio as his full time job. is using a “Mac 5″ i looked them up in price as to find what i saw it wasn’t that big of a deal difference. i am gonna be up grading to a larger computer as i read to get 2 processors etc. what is your option on an i mac that i have to a mac5 and or mac pro.

5. ConnorSmith - December 7, 2008

As far as the upgrade goes, Pro Tools 8 comes out in a few days, and that would be a substantial upgrade (elastic audio/pitch, new samplers/instruments, new midi features, new GUI, more plug-ins, more tracks, better features, etc… Its highly anticipated).

For the computer, I’m not sure what a “Mac 5″ is. Do you mean a Mac Pro? If so, I have one, and I love/highly recommend it.

Pro Tools 8 is Leopard-only, so you would have to at least upgrade to Leopard (if not the whole computer) if you chose to go that route.

I have a Boss BR 1180 without a CD/RW drive. Is it possible to connect a different or any external CD/RW drive to the BR 1180? What kind of connectors do I need to accomlish this?

Thanks!!

Lost files on pro tools Le 7.3.1 ,intel mac computer,Hi damon right when i say all is well, I open up a song. lost guitar track and never found, Question. does it “really” matter if the digi console board is turned on first, then second to turn on the computer, That is how i read it and do it when i am just using it to record. But if i want to just use to computer i put a foam pad on top of my digi console and place the key pad on top and type away. the digi would be off but the computer on. Then if i want to play around on the music i move the key pad and turn on the digi and load it. i had lost file and that is the only thing i can think i did . But i have done that too many times to count and all was still there. any ideas why i lost well it was 1 guitar track and 2 small regions on another track and never found them > this is not the first time on this but, the first time in 3/4 of a year. I have the digi 002 console.

9. Bill - December 10, 2008

Hi damon so it looks like the upgrades past the le 7.3.1 are more plug in, tracks an so on etc……. All that is fine with me on the 002 console 7.3.1. Just a quick question Do any of the up grade “really” do anything to get a richer sound. Like going from le to hd Which i read all over about that some say there is a sound difference some say it next to nothing that is another issue but,. Any technical things to improve the 002 into a stronger working board. do not use any of the digi plug ins . i use all the waves and do not buy digi plugins and really am flooded with plugins. I started to purchase a couple out board pc and heading into that direction but always looking to hop up my board. I even had the board sent to black lion to have a mod done on it. Well it was a total few steps but nothing can be done to it than that, I am just out to step up in :sound quality” as if it came out of a larger size studio with more that a Le set up. I did read the up grade but most it looks like it offers a lot ,A lot more of things. But i did not hear that it was “gonna ” make the sound super from the 002 or whatever.what i am looking for example if it was a car engine i would want to send it out to some speed shop to have it totally worked like for the track . i am just out for climbing the steps for performance without getting rid of my 002 that i like.

10. ConnorSmith - December 10, 2008

You should turn on the Digi unit before powering the computer, but doing those in reverse order would not cause files to be missing. That could either be a a hard drive error, a bad disk allocation (within Pro Tools), etc…

If you have your 002 modded by BLA and you have good mics and preamps (and good plug-ins in the Waves models), and still aren’t getting a good sound, I wouldn’t buy anything else. Rather, I would work on getting a more desirable sound out of the things you already have. Unfortunately in pro audio, there isn’t a magical device that will make all of our stuff sound awesome (although… don’t we all wish there was…:O)

11. Damon Sink - December 10, 2008

Hey Bill,

I find that if I don’t like the sound I am getting, then I should just set everything back to “zero” and start over. First get the best sound you can through your preamp & mics (no compression, enhancing or EQ–experiment with different distances, input gain, etc.) then JUDICIOUSLY start to dial in some of the sweetening. Great sounding tracks are usually not heavily processed to get them sounding that way. If you have a good mic and a good preamp, you should be able to get a good sound. Make sure you don’t have compressor thresholds set to something crazy. Make sure you start with flat eq and reliable monitoring and GENTLY tweak things. Be patient. Trust your ears. You have the gear and plugins to get a great sound already.

If you are really baffled, you might send me a raw track to listen to. I have helped some people that way.

Best,

Damon

I have static in my voice when I record vocals. Can anyone help me? Im using the Samson G Track.

13. Pat - January 1, 2009

How do I export my finished project to an audio file as a whole? Just like an actual song (mp3). I would greatly appreciate the help. Thanks.

14. ConnorSmith - January 1, 2009

Pat –
What DAW are you using? What computer are you using? What are monitoring with? (Then I can tell you how to export or bounce your song out)

For question #1, its very possible that the static is probably just the noise floor of the mic (or room, etc), or it could be something more complicated, perhaps a driver problem(?)

Welcome to thestudiofiles.com!

15. bill - January 1, 2009

I used to get static at times .I bought a monster power pro 2500.it was about $250.00/ just one of those rack mount power strips that filters out so called bad electric ,and other line noise,as well as protects from lightning, no problems for a year so far.

16. bill - January 1, 2009

Connor or ?Damon. as to the full song tempo change , I saw the video you have, that showed it in midi, using midi notes not wave, As to the elastic audio ,That is exactly what i was looking for but,can i but just that. I do not need any more plug in at all. i have more plug ins then i need.I am on pro tool LE 7.3.1 -I mac intel,running on tiger, And as to the tempo change to a whole song do you know anybody who was able to get the song to change in wave not midi without having to buy the whole upgrade. Somebody told me it can be done but i haven’t tried the combination to get it to work. I know messing with the constant tempo doesn’t do it, If i followed he same steps as midi tempo change for entire song will it work ?or do i have to buy elastic audio. ?

17. ConnorSmith - January 1, 2009

Bill –
You need elastic audio to manipulate it in that manner. Remember though, if you want to upgrade PT 8, you will need to also upgrade to Leopard.

Elastic audio was added in 7.4 (and obviously is still in 8). You would have to upgrade the Pro Tools version.

18. Pat - January 3, 2009

Connor,
I’m using Logic Studio with an iMac.

19. Pat - January 4, 2009

Running on Leopard.

20. Damon Sink - January 4, 2009

Hi Pat–

Don’t know if you have the static problem worked out (hope so) but to export in logic, select the entire song region in the arrange window then click “Bounce” at the bottom of your stereo output channel (probably Output 1-2). In the next window, choose your output format (probably 16 bit, 44.1 KHz) and make sure that the region selection gives you a little wiggle room for the end of the track, in case you have effects that would extend past the audio regions.

GREETINGS!!!

* I am having problems with my Digi 002 console. For some reason my Protools 8 cannot read the 1394 (Firewire) from the console. When I plug in the firewire to my G4, 17 inch Labtop, the green light comes on on the back of my digi 002 but when I load up protools, it said that the console is not connected.

* My Mbox works fine with my protools, but my computer doesn’t read my Digi 002 console.

* My Digi 002 works fine on the Standalone mode, but doesn’t work (at all) with protools.

* I have an 17 inch G4 Laptop. PROCESSOR: 1.67 GHz PowerPC G4. MEMORY: 2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
* I Also have a 12 inch G4 LapTop. PROCESSOR: 1.5 GHz PowerPC G4. MEMORY: 1.25 GB DDR2 SDRAM
* I have the MAC OS X (Leopard) on both mac computers.

* My Digi 002 doesn’t work with both Macs!!!

HELP ME PLEASE!!!

Thanks!!!

22. ConnorSmith - January 25, 2009

Pro Tools probably should have updated your 002 firmware either during installation or upon first launch; did it do this?

My first guess (unfortunately) would be that the computers are a little old. The older the hardware gets, the likelihood of problems with new software go up.

Are you using 10.5.5 (the combo update) and a clean install of PT 8?

23. steven o eniraiyetan - January 27, 2009

what is the most efficient way to connect an mbox pro 2 to an imac leopard

26. ConnorSmith - February 3, 2009

@Christopher

I guess I don’t really understand the question, unless the answer you are looking for is “use a firewire cable to connect your computer to the MBox”

If you can be more specific, I can help.

27. purecountry70 - February 5, 2009

I bought sonar 7 and I have a behringer 1204 FX mixer and a audiophile 2496 interface I also just got new audio cables but when I try to record I’am getting low levels I updated the drivers I tryed just about everything I know but I’am still getting low audio levels when recording, please help

28. ConnorSmith - February 5, 2009

@purecountry70

It could be a lot of things, so I will just start listing possibilities.

Are you sure you are using proper gain staging through your signal path (aka adjusting the trim properly, adjusting the output level properly, whether it be an aux/fader/etc)?
What are you recording? The source+mic combination could also add into this.
Does the 2496 have calibration option? If so, it could be set low.

Additionally, not to knock on Behringer that much… but it could be a product of the mixer.

Also, how do you have the signal path setup? Does the mixer have direct outs, or are you sending from buses/auxes?

The more you can tell/show me about your setup, the better chance of us troubleshooting it. Feel free to send me an email (links up top in the “About” tab) and attach screenshots and/or pictures of your setup.

The option to save my garageband file as an archive doesn’t come up, and it won’t let me save it as a .zip from the save as menu. what am I doing wrong?

30. ConnorSmith - February 5, 2009

@mell

You don’t actually save the file as an Archive.
Once you save it (as a normal .band file), find it in Finder, right click the file, and then you can choose to Archive it (zip it)
Let me know if this works for you.

31. shawn - February 5, 2009

I recorded my drums on the Boss BR 1600 onto 8 seperate tracks and did a quick mix/ bounce onto tracks 9/10. Then I recorded the bass and guitars. Somehow through too many ‘undos’ I erased the original drum tracks. However, before the rest of the instruments were recorded, I backed up the original drums onto a cd-r. I was hoping to somehow upload the drums from the cd into the song containing the bass and guitars so I can do a proper mix down of the drums. I also have the BR900 at my disposal. Is there any way to get my original drums back in with the guitars without having to re-record?

32. ConnorSmith - February 6, 2009

I am very much not familiar with the BR1600 or BR900.

If it were me, I would load the tracks on the CD into a DAW, and transfer the bass and guitars as well.

I’ll ask PJ if he knows, he may have used a BR1600 before.

My first bet would be to play the files into the line inputs of one of your recorders, but I don’t know about locking them together or lining them up (never used those). Definitely your easiest bet is to find a friend with a DAW.

33. Rodrigo Elizondo - February 9, 2009

Hi I have a digi 002 and I mastered a demo with ozone 3
Using sennheiser hd 580 headphones and it sounds awesome
but then I hear it on my yamaha hsm monitors and it doesn’t sound that good, and then you hear it on the car or normal headphones or speakers and it really sucks. Can you give some advice of what I am doing wrong?
you can hear a song at this site
http://www.myspace.com/vostokmty
or I can send it to you
and explain you more about the recording process if you want too
thanks
have a nice day

34. ConnorSmith - February 9, 2009

@Rodrigo

I would not use headphones as my primary monitoring system. I would recommend mixing mainly on the HSM 80′s and using the headphones as a reference occasionally.

The problem you are experiencing is a fundamental challenge of mixing – translation. The goal of mixing is not only to make it sound good, but to make it sound good no matter what system it is played on (and this is obviously also very applicable to the mastering process).

You can see a link to my email in the “Who We Are” tab above, feel free to send me an email with an mp3 of a mix.

35. ConnorSmith - February 23, 2009

@Bill

Engineers will argue night and day about the “sound” of the actual DAWs, but in my opinion, there is very little if any difference.

The more noticeable difference will be in the converters. Stock 002 converters are decent, but not phenomenal. Either the HD interfaces or external converters (Apogee, Lynx, etc.) will typically give a noticeable improvement.

Its hard for me to give you a real recommendation, as I’ve not heard the material.

If you’ve already tracked, I wouldn’t see the need to go to the big studio (assuming your mix room sounds good, you don’t need their outboard, etc.). If you are re-tracking things will better converters, then perhaps.

36. pay gutter - February 26, 2009

i put pt8 in my drive and nothing happens\im trying to install it

37. ConnorSmith - February 26, 2009

@Pay

I am going to need more information to help you (computer, OS, specs, previously installed PT?, which interface?, things like that)

But for starters – when you put the disc in the drive, is your computer recognizing the presence of a disc? If so, then have you tried running the installer? You will have to open the disc and click on the installer to get it to run.

The more details you can give, the better chance there is that you can be helped.

38. ConnorSmith - March 10, 2009

You should give the mastering engineer files in the bit depth in which you recorded the project (hopefully 24 bit). Yes, eventually the Mastering engineer will convert down to 16 bit, but its nice to leave that up to him/her because
a) it leaves the files in 24 bit for the mastering process
b) they have a really expensive and excellent sounding way to get it down to 16 bit :)

Data CDs (rather than playable music CDs) allow for 24 bit files, plus the mastering engineer doesn’t have to spend time ripping the CD.

39. bill - March 11, 2009

Sounds good BUT, how would i do it on pro tools LE 7.3.1. I have the console digi 002.

Do I bounce it ?How do i get the song wav to the data cd. I know all about the regular cd but never did a DATA cd.

I did find out one way but don’t understand all of it. It said about putting a cd in and dragging the song into the cd ,then putting it in the trash and the inner tools on pro tools will burn it. well it said the trash bin will turn into a burn bin. How would you do this ?

To make a DATA cd on pro tools LE digi 002 running on 7.3.1 intel based I mac.

40. ConnorSmith - March 11, 2009

@Bill

Right click the desktop, “New Burn Folder”, drag the audio files into the folder, burn the disc.

41. Roberto - March 21, 2009

Hi,

How do you assign Logic outputs to mono outputs, so I can send individual mono tracks to an external mixer. Meaning audi track 1 – mono out put 1, audio track 2 – mono output 2, etc…

The only option available is always a stereo output, even if your audio/instrument track is mono, and even when your output strip is set to mono… the output bounce always goes to channes 1-2, or 3-4, etc…

Any ideas?

42. ConnorSmith - March 21, 2009

@Roberto

I’m not in front of my computer (and actually haven’t used Logic in awhile…) but two suggestions:

1) Assign your mono track to a stereo output and just pan hard L or R
Example – you have a mono bass and a mono vocal track. Send both to Output 1-2, but pan the bass hard left and the vocal hard right. Now the bass will come out 1 and the vocal 2.

2) I’m sure there’s a way to do this (perhaps in the mixer, but if not, then) in the Environment. I can check it out and get back to you, but the easiest way is probably #1^^

44. BAMA - March 28, 2009

Adobe Audition 3 for Windows. is this a good program to record with?

45. Marshall Oliver - April 2, 2009

Hi, I was wondering if you were planning on doing an Antares AutoTune tutorial that show the more “practical” uses for the program (you know, pitch correction). I struggle getting good (or any) results with the plugin and would like to hear your insight on the subject.

46. ConnorSmith - April 3, 2009

^^I’d be glad to.

It might take me a few days, grad school is quite busy this time of year :O

As a quick tip, the only “real” (aka transparent) use of the plug-in (IMO) is to use graphical mode. This way you can tweak the attack, form, and length of any tuning you do. The success of the plug-in very much lies in the relationship between how you draw the tuning curve/line and the attack time.

47. trey Stone - April 6, 2009

My macbook pro freezes and quits using pro tools 8…
please help…

48. ConnorSmith - April 6, 2009

Its impossible to help without some more information, such as:
- which macbook pro, what are the specs
- are you using an external drive? which one
- which version of Pro Tools 8?
- which version of Leopard?
- what third party plug-ins do you have installed?
- when does it crash?

Hey guys I am running a g-5 10.5.6 with a digi002 and just installed the new protools 8 software and I’m trying to get it in sync with my mpc 2500 it looks like everything is connected right and I can see that when I click on the sync button on protools that the mpc 2500 and protools are talking but it is taking foreveeeer for them to sync in mtc, and once it does sync its runs fine, but when I stop it from the mpc 2500 and try again it does the same thing, it takes about two minutes for the two to sync if it syncs at all,what can it be ? I am in protools nursery school and dont know where to start

51. Mike Fig - April 17, 2009

Hi all!
Question; I am a 27yo amateur engineer/producer who has been off the battlefield for a couple years, and am looking to get my hands back into some projects. Can anyone recommend a studio that would like some free help a couple days a week? Even if I’m just pushing buttons or moving boxes, I just want to network and refresh my memory. Please let me know!

Thanks!

52. ConnorSmith - April 17, 2009

^^Where are you located?

53. Mike Fig - April 28, 2009

I live in Kettering.

54. ConnorSmith - April 28, 2009

There aren’t a ton of studios in the Dayton area. The biggest one I know of is Refraze. I would drop an email/resume/phone call to some studios in the area and see where that gets you.

I can’t speak for Damon, but if I am doing projects in the area during the summer there is a chance that I may need an additional intern or two. I’ll keep you posted.

55. frenchmansaxe - May 2, 2009

Hello from Montreal.
I am running Protools 7.1 w/ a digi002 and I was wondering how one might go about recording a Dr. Rex drum loop (Reason Adapted for Protools) onto a track. I have never used Dr. Rex before and found some really nice loops, but when I tried to send it to track, I was told that the destination track was already assigned (or something like that) I am not a big midi user, so this is all new to me. Any hints / tips would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

56. Damon Sink - May 2, 2009

Montreal… what a great city!

I think that you can make Reason an instrument insert on an aux track and then route that to an audio track to record. (I’m more of a Digital Performer guy–Connor will chime in if I’ve got it wrong)

–Damon

57. ConnorSmith - May 3, 2009

^^Yep.

So the general setup will be:

- Pro Tools and Reason are open. Reason is in ReWire mode (open the program after Pro Tools)
- Create a patch in Reason with your Dr. Rex (outputs are likely routed to 1-2, hit Tab to check the back of the virtual rack)
- In Pro Tools, create an Aux or Instrument track. Insert the Reason ReWire plug-in, and monitor the outputs that your checked in the last step.
- Create a MIDI track in Pro Tools, send its output to the Dr. Rex

That’s the basics to get sound out of Reason into Pro Tools. Now, to record that, just send your ReWire track’s output to a bus, and direct that to a new (stereo) audio track and record it in.

One thing to note is that you are not recording MIDI from Reason, you are recording audio.

58. Frenchmansaxe - May 3, 2009

Thanks guys, will give it shot.

59. Damon Sink - May 3, 2009

“One thing to note is that you are not recording MIDI from Reason, you are recording audio.”

Right. You are not sequencing MIDI in Reason. You are creating a MIDI track in PT that is triggering Reason sounds which are the routed back to Pro Tools.

The really cool thing is that you can send multiple, discrete, Reason outputs to separate Pro Tools Aux inputs to mix. This gives you all of the Reason processing power (chain those rack modules through the amazing Reason fx) and then all the shizzle of PT.

Nice. Thanks for chiming in Connor.

60. gray - May 4, 2009

how d i transfer pro tools files to cubase
and or how do i record tracks from a triton keybord to cubase

61. ConnorSmith - May 4, 2009

@Gray
This should tell you how to transfer between DAWs
http://thestudiofiles.com/?p=97

Recording to Cubase would involve you plugging in your keyboard to an audio interface, arming a track in Cubase, and recording. I’m not really sure how to explain it better – unless you can tell me what interface you are using.

Basic path is
Triton Audio outputs> Interface Instrument/Line Inputs>Cubase track

i purchased a dell xps 420 to run pro tools le 8. i have a mbox2 pro. The computer wouldn’t recognize the interface through the firewire port. when i hooked it up, it didnt even recognize that it had hardware hooked up to it. the dell techs finally told me my problem was my interface, so i bought another mbox2 pro, before i came home, i went to best buy and hooked it to a studio xps and it recognized it immediatly. i didnt have time to see what operating system it was running, but it recognized the hardware and asked to install the software. when i got home, i hooked the interface up and it still would not recognize the hardware. they eventually sent a in home tech who replaced the motherboard, and i/o front panels and still did not fix the problem. They sent me a new computer in exchange a xps 630i. I hooked it up and does the same thing. we have tried loading new drivers, replaced the fire card with a SIIG card ( info from the digi design website ) and still it dosnt recognize the interface. when pro tools is loading it gives the error message, hardware not recognized please plug in hardware, when hardware is already plugged in. i am running windows vista home premium ( the 420 was running windows vista ultimate ) 32 bit which is compatible with pro tools le 8. I need to know if anyone else has had this problem, and if so please help me so i can order the right computer from dell. Thanks Mike

63. ConnorSmith - May 7, 2009

@ Michael

Please don’t post the same question in two different places. It makes it hard to keep track of answers and progress.

First off – have you tried a shorter firewire cable?

According to this page –
http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=54&itemid=23876
Windows Vista Home is not fully tested with PT, although it shouldn’t be causing problems. Have you tried hooking up other firewire devices to those ports (like a HDD)?

You can also use this page
http://www.digidesign.com/index.cfm?langid=100&navid=54&itemid=29586
to check for more specific compatibility issues.

In my experience (and others may not have the same), Windows setups with Pro Tools are typically more ornery than Mac setups…

Keep us posted – we will help where we can.

64. Jonathan - May 17, 2009

will pro tools 8 support 64-bit systems?

65. David B. - June 2, 2009

Hi this may be a dumb question but ill ask it anyway lol. I have protools le, what exactly do i need do to get my songs unto a different computer?

66. ConnorSmith - June 2, 2009

@Dave

Are you transferring Pro Tools files, or do you just want a bounce of the audio to be transferred?

Are these computers near each other (aka would someone be able to walk between them carrying an external drive) or do you need an internet transfer service?

Are they both Mac/PC or one of each?

67. Alex Lugo - June 8, 2009

Hello;

This is Alex Lugo and i just have a quick question…. i was thinking about getting pro tools le (mini mbox) for a pc computer, but i only want the mbox as a dongle cuz what i want to use for recording is an pci audioscience audio card that i alredy have installed on the computer… so… is it possible for me to use the inputs of my pci???? or would i be limited to only use the two inputs of the mini mbox??? thank you for your help.

68. ConnorSmith - June 8, 2009

@Alex

Pro Tools LE will only communicate with Digidesign LE interfaces, and will only work with one of those interfaces at a time.

Why do you want to use the PCI card over the Digi interface? Does it have specific I/O that you need?

69. Alex Lugo - June 8, 2009

yes sr… and i like the quality of it… to be honest i was expecting to use the mini mbox only as a dongle,i was only looking for the sofware and i thought it was possible for me to use both of the sound cards..

70. ConnorSmith - June 8, 2009

Which Audioscience card are you using, and what sort of inputs/outputs do you need for your studio?

71. Alex Lugo - June 8, 2009

i believe im using the ASI6540… you can findout more about it here..

how do i save session files from a project to disk so that i can bring them to another studio to finish recording the song?

73. Charlie H. - June 30, 2009

Looking for a good “all in one” ,(converter/interface), to get my 2 track mixes into Wavelab6 for editing and somewhat mastering. I’ve already chosen a few plug-in bundles from Waves as well. (FYI, I’m a PC user). I’m tracking “out of the box”. I’ve been researching this for a couple months and asking questions on other forums, but i’m not sure who’s on the other end giving me advice. I was looking at the RME400, someone suggested Apogee Rosetta200 w/firewire card, but was wondering, what’s the deal with Focusrite’s Liquid Saffire 56? It looks impressive, on paper, and is a little cheaper than the two previously mentioned. Any suggestions or advice would be great !

Thanks,
Charlie

75. Mike - July 7, 2009

noticed you had a post about Garage Band project files, so i figured I’d ask a question; a shot in the dark, hope it not annoying.

If I move Garage Band project files onto an external hard drive do I run the risk of getting the “file not found” error once i re-open the project file from the hard drive – i.e. how do i make sure that all my tracks get moved successfully with project file?

Thanks-a-bunch-town..

76. jonsmyth - July 7, 2009

hello and thank you for your help online!

is it possible to de-tune the DB33 or Mini Piano up or down
while recording in PT8?

if so..please explain..

Thank you, Jon

77. Mike Schindler - July 8, 2009

hi guys, it’s been awhile. i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to send a sequence pattern from the reason 4 thor polysonic synthesizer. I mean the step sequencer included when you expand thor to show the filters, etc. I know how to create a step sequence, but unlike redrum, there doesn’t seem to be a way to rout the patterns to a track.

Thanks,

Mike Schindler

78. hogne - July 9, 2009

Hi.

I recently bought my self an imac 2.66, os x 10.5.7 combo update 4GB. I use the original Mbox with PT8, but my imac is unable to connect to this it says in prefs. I launch pro tools and it seems to function as it should, I only have some white noise problem that is fixed with firmware22, but since mbox is not located I guess the firmware update is non good either. I really wonder why my Mbox (original) is not detected?? Anyone?

79. hogne - July 9, 2009

And one more thing: before I got myself a mac I ran PT7.1 on pc. I had no problem what so ever with latency on my plugs but in PT8 on my imac its a BIG problem. Is there any solution to this besides buying a program that fixes latency.

Appriciate this site!!

80. ConnorSmith - July 10, 2009

@hedy

In our search bar, search for “transferring”. There are a few articles on some different methods of transferring. Let me know if those don’t get you where you need.

@Charlie

Can you give us a little more insight on the rest of your setup (everything from what you are tracking on, monitoring, room acoustics, etc…) I usually like to look at the whole picture before starting to suggest things to buy :)

@new guy

Can you take a screenshot and send it to my email? I forget, but does the MBox 2 have the “input/playback” mix knob on the front like the old MBox? It could be something like that. When you hear things in the headphones, do you see audio flickering on the meters of your record-enabled tracks?

@Mike

Howdy – let me call an audible and get some help from Damon or our friend Ronnie on that one. I actually don’t have Reason 4 (never upgraded from 2.5). I should buckle down and get that upgrade.

@hogne
I would go to Digidesign’s site and check out their compatibility pages for the latest on MBox1 compatibility with Leopard and PT 8 for sure. As far as plug-in latency goes, that’s not something that should change with these versions. Have you checked the latencies of the plug-ins in the mix window? Are you sure its not a buffer issue?

As long as you grab the whole garageband file, it shouldn’t be a problem. You may want to .zip it up just to be safe. Check out PJ’s post on “Emailing Garageband Files”

@jonsmyth

There’s definitely a way to do it afterwards – you could automate the pitch control wheel in the MIDI data (or in a bad pinch, you could bounce it to audio and use pitch correction to shift it up or down a bit)

81. Charlie H. - July 10, 2009

Hey Connor. I’m tracking through a 48ch. Ghost w/ upgrades, (burr brown ic’s, panasonic caps, etc.), all out board effects/processing, to Hd24′s, DA88′s, or 3M M23 4 Track. I’m operating out of a large “Log Home”. The control room 14×20, 8ft. ceiling (acousticly dead), is located in the lower level, near and far fields. “Live rooms” in the uper level, vary in size (lofts, rooms w/vaulted ceilings, small amp closets, etc.), 1 large make shift echo chamber over 2 1/2 car garage, CV home made monitor cabs in main room. I’ve been slowly expanding my little hobby for the past 20yrs. Most of the people that come here have never seen a M&M 768pt patch bay before, tell me I look like a phone operator, and get worried cause I don’t use Pro Tools. But once we’re rollin’ they’re ok. I just want to start giving people/clients, that don’t need a pro mastering job, a reasonable finished “modern” sounding product when they walk out of here. I’m just kinda lost when it comes to picking a good AD/DA converter/interface, with all the different products out there that all say the same thing.

Thanks

82. Damon Sink - July 11, 2009

@ Mike:

Seems more like Thor’s step sequencer is intended to let you program a pattern as part the overall patch. The pattern is an integral part of the sound, rather than a MIDI sequence that you would want to send back to the synth. I could see how you would want to maybe edit the sequence outside of Thor, but I don’t see any way to send it out and bring it back.

Hope that helps.

Damon

83. Damon Sink - July 11, 2009

Hi Charlie,

Connor’s going to be the better one to advise, but he’s going to want to know your budget. How about an 003? Kill two birds with one stone: clients won’t have to worry that you don’t use PT any more. Or, you could get an Alesis Masterlink, which has excellent A/D and burn them CDs right from there.

My $.02

Damon

84. ConnorSmith - July 11, 2009

@charlie

Cool – sounds like a great setup going there. As far as the AD converters go, I have a few more questions:

- Are you just looking to get the stereo mix in, or do you think you’d need more channels?
- Is this a system that you would eventually like to expand into your multitrack recorder (rather than the HD24, etc.)?
- Do you have a particular DAW or mastering program that you’d like to go into?
- Do you already own any plug-ins/DSP for the mastering process (or analog gear for mastering for that matter)?
- How much do you want to spend?

That last question is kind of a doozy – since there’s such a wide range. I’d figure out the maximum that you’d want to spend, figure out what you’d like to accomplish in terms of expandability/track counts/processing, and then we can start fishing through suggestions.

@Bill
With Windows computers you are going to want to check out the specific compatibility pages on Digidesign.com – checking each component of your computer and software for compatibility. Its always good to have a backup, but I’d check everything from the OS version to processor to firewire chipsets before trying to go down that path.

85. Charlie H. - July 12, 2009

Hi Connor. I would just like to get the stereo mix in and really don’t see myself expanding it any farther, for awhile anyway. I’ve spent 10′s of thousands of dollars on out board effects/processing over the years and no need to increase my track count beyond what I’m capable of now. As far as the mastering process, I would like to get into Wavelab6 (retail), which I already have and have used in a friends project studio . As far as plug-ins, I have heard work done using Waves Platinum, and SSL bundle and was leaning that route, but haven’t purchased anything yet, (if you have other suggestions?). I would like to keep the cost of the converter/interface under $2,000 if possible. I’ve read that only a “good ear” can hear the difference between the Apogee Rossetta and RME400?, then I’ve read that the coverters in the 400 don’t stand up to the ones in the 800. I was also looking into the Benchmark ADC1 but can’t find to much “hands on” advice. The list goes on and on! Or, maybe I’m barkin’ up the wrong tree and missing something, over thinking? Also, Damon’s suggestion with the “Masterlink” , is that a possibility? Could I mix down to Masterlink @-6 or so then upload into Wavelab? Or would this be an unorthdox method of getting there? Thanks again. I like the fact your asking me lots ‘o questions before you suggest something, instead of just throwing random things out there. Sorry for my ignorance. Thank you Damon for your input as well.

I bought Mbox 2 Pro and Mbox 2 micro for my Mac book 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB of ram with Mac OS X 10.5.6. I have installed Pro Tools 8 and at first I was very impressed. I started using the templates when it started to give me CPU over load error so I increase the buffer and keep the rest of the setting in its default, but for a moment it was working fine. But every time I use it will give me the same CPU overload error every time I try to use a template or a new session. I called digidesign so they could fix the problem and they did, but it started to do it again with my Mbox 2 Micro and Mbox 2 Pro. What should I do? Can this be fix? Or should I degrade it back to Pro Tools 7.4 Please help me.

87. jordan Roberts - August 11, 2009

So I have watched the demo online of how you change the tempo in a song but I am having trouble.
I am able to place a new meter in, my tune I am working on goes from 3/4 197bpm to 1/4 but stays at 197bpm. I am wanting the bpm to change to 290 when it goes to 1/4 and when I select the pencil tool to make the change on the green tempo bar my pencil is grayed out and wont add the point in so that I can then grab the hand tool and raise the tempo at the point where I inserted the meter change. I have it set to grid mode and everything but it still will not let me make the edit.

What step am I missing?

Please help!

Hi everyone,

My name’s Michael Collins and I found this forum by doing a websearch for an AES chapter near Dayton, OH. The site and the forums are impressive so I figured I’d sign up! I’m currently a video student at ICB and the senior audio engineer at Church of the Cross in Kettering, OH. I have 10 years experience in the live sound / production aspects of the business and I’m playing with various DAW’s. I hope to learn a lot from these forums and thanks to everyone who openly shares information on here.

Hello I am really Confused about starting my own little studio. i bought a 750GB 4GB RAM Desktop Computer HP Will that work fine with pro tools 8. and you said something about whiping everyting from the one you used can you tell me how you did that, and also since am only doing rap i bought this bundle from guitarcenter http://www.guitarcenter.com/Digidesign-Pro-Tools-Mbox-2-Factory-Bundle-702527-i1177447.gc with this be the only thing i need to make my music i already have the mic stand a a few mics. and also whats a good pre amp to buy and is affordable?

Whats a good external to buy i already have a 750GB WD? will that work?

Can i Combine a Power Conditioner and a regular power strip for more outlets?

Is KRK Speakers Really Good since i can get it for cheap?

and i am really into doing beats as well will Reasons 4 and a mini piano do the job,

Oh and i do Rap Music And Remember is only me recording so please dont recommend me to stuff that i probably wont even need.

and this is the computer i bought from ebay

http://cgi.ebay.com/FAST-HP-PC-P4-3-4GHZ-DESKTOP-COMPUTER-WIN-XP-19-LCD_W0QQitemZ170366643941QQcmdZViewItemQQptZDesktop_PCs?hash=item27aaa4aee5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14

can you tell me how to tone it so it can work without crashing with pro tools.. and is there any other stuff i need to buy for my studio

Please help me

Thanks Mike

92. Michael R. Collins - August 14, 2009

Mike,

I can answer some of these questions.

Yes you can plug a power strip into a power conditioner for more outlets, just try not to plug in anything that draws a lot of amps. Most power strips (just like wall outlets) are 20 amp circuits. 750GB is more than enough memory to store .wav and .ptf files. ICB has a pretty sweet Pro Tools HD v. 8 setup in it’s digital studio, you might want to call them and talk to Dennis about the specifications. He’s certified in Pro Tools at the Engineer level (937) 258 – 8251.

As far as the computer working, just compare the specs (RAM/ROM) with the minimum requirements for your version of Pro Tools. If it’s double the minimum sytem requirements, that’s a good thing. If it’s barely able to run it, not so much.

Presonus makes a pretty affordable, decent, 8 channel mic preamp, but I would recomend a cheap 4 or 8 channel console instead, just for ease of controll.

Hey kids!

Question about recording resolution…
If I record at 48hz 24bit, will I get any dithering or other problems when downmixing to 44.1hz 16bit? Obviously the quality will be lesser, but will it ADD any other noise to the sound when it’s processed?

Also looking for musicians in Dayton if anybody is looking to be a part of a project! You can see my ad at http://dayton.craigslist.org/muc/1325889526.html

Thanks guys!
-Mike Fig

94. Damon Sink - August 19, 2009

Hi Mike,

If you are recording at 48/24, then I would leave it there until the (pre) master stage. You’re going to want to bounce some reference mixes in Logic as you go, but leave the conversions until the very end. Then, you can just do this in Waveburner, which has high quality dither/SRC.

I’ll pass along your request for collaborators. Unfortunately(!) I don’t meet your age criteria(!)

;-)

Ahoy,
I’ve been working on mastering some tracks for a hard rock band I’ve been working with. We’ve been working long and hard on this project and we’re planning on having a CD release party in Oct. so, needless to say, I want them to sound as professional as possible.
So far what I’ve been doing is taking the bounced unmastered stereo track and doing some light EQ (cutting some muddy frequencies), compression (I usually start with the mix enhancer preset in logic 8), and then a limiter to make sure there’s no clipping. At this point, I have them sounding the best I’ve ever been able to, but I still feel like I’m missing quite a bit of the mastering process, and I know for a fact that the volume is nowhere near where a professional mix usually is. Are there any other tricks tweaks i should attempt that would make my tracks more professional sounding? and what in the world should I be doing to make this volume the level it should be at?

Thanks for your help!

Running PT LE 8 on digi 002, Mac G5, 6 gigs ram. Using it for a week,working on one song, have 1 reason sampler and 1 NI Kontakt 3 sampler on two separate tracks. Have been recording with both, midi and also printing audio, no problems. Last night PT froze, everything crashed, had to power down and power up again. When I re-opened my track and resumed recording in Reason (using a keyboard to trigger midi as before), the part I was playing was in time as I recorded it but upon playback it was about a second AHEAD of the track. Sort of reverse-latency. I tried re-recording the track again just using my trigger keyboard for its in the box piano sound, bypassing all midi and going through a pre-amp right into PT. The track was STILL ahead upon playback, but in time while recording.

Any suggestions? I have been mining the web all day for fixes but not finding this problem. At my wit’s end!

I am new to LE having spent 7 years with HD, so there’s a lot I have to learn.

Greetings from Chicago. Hope all is well. I have a quick question–I can test it out, but it just popped into my mind at work. Is it possible to wire instrument patches (eg. the NNXT Sampler) to synth filters/oscillators in Reason 4? For example, a piano through the filters/oscillators of the Thor?

114. ConnorSmith - October 28, 2009

Here’s a bunch of answers

@Jordan
Feel free to send me an email with some mp3′s of your tracks. I’ll be able to give some suggestions then.

@Andrew
For your two questions – are you using the same computer when experiencing both problems (sounds like you upgraded your computer for the second question). In the situation where the Logic recording isn’t working, does it work in Pro Tools?

@Gabriele
Its hard to say, but very very often, when you mix Digidesign and Native Instruments, bad things happen. I would check both Digidesign.com and DUC.Digidesign.com for more specifics (use their search function and type in your specifics)

@Mark
When pasting regions of drums (assuming this is a live kit, not a drum machine) you will need to group your drums together and grab an entire kit region at once, not just the kick drum. Also, use grid mode so that you know things are remaining in time (assuming you tracked to a click, otherwise you’ll have to use your ears and eyes :)

@David
Does it recognize other CDs?
Is there a reason you don’t want to run PT8 on the Mac side of the computer? Bootcamp can be a bit fishy at times.

@Bam
Read this: http://thestudiofiles.com/?p=848

@frenchmansaxe
Loops and soundfiles are files that you can drag into sessions to create music. They are unrelated to plug-ins and processing. I don’t think I quite understand your question.

@richard
I’ll shoot this over to PJ. He is our resident BR expert.

Hi!

I’m trying to make an advertisement for Uni. I got my own music and got a MP4 clip that I want to use. I’ve put them both in Logic 8 and got it how I want. I don’t know what to do now though, I’d like to submit it on a CD so it plays like a MP4 but I don’t know how to do it. I pretty much can only go as far as file, save at this point ;-)

Any help would be much appreciated!

@ConnerSmith

Hi, thanks for your reply. I tried to bounce it using all the options (PCM, MP3 etc.) and theres no sign of my movie clip at all, it only seems to be bounce the audio.

118. ConnorSmith - November 5, 2009

@Jamie

You don’t want to bounce to PCM or Mp3 – those are audio formats. You need a video format. Choose File>Bounce to…>Quicktime Movie

my boss br 1600 screen has just gone all green can sombody help me

120. ConnorSmith - November 10, 2009

@tony

Hmm. I’m not the resident Boss BR1600 expert, but I have a few general things to suggest. First off, (assuming this hasn’t resulted from dropping down a flight of stairs :) I would look in the manual for a factory reset option. Sometimes holding a key combo when you power a unit on will return it to normal health.

If you are comfortable with it, you could also pop the unit open and take a look inside. While this likely won’t shed much information (unless you are a whiz with those sorts of diagnostics), you will be able to look for really obvious things like exploded/leaking capacitors and the like.

It also could be a drive problem, so reformatting or replacing the hard drive could help.

What does it say in Logic’s audio preferences? You should be selecting your audio device through Logic, not through Core Audio. Let me know – we can troubleshoot further.

How do I connect my Digi 002 console to Logic Pro 9? I can’t find settings anywhere. I downloaded the CoreAudio Manager and now I don’t know what to do in Logic. Thanks for any help…

Greetings, With Christmas around the corner, I would like to get myself a book about Protools 8. Please recommend a book that explains things for a beginner. I have a Dell with Windows Vista.

Thanks,

Jeff

134. ConnorSmith - November 30, 2009

@Ed
Hmmm.. I haven’t heard of that before. I know at one point, Pro Tools was having a problem similar to this, but I can’t remember the specifics. I’ll check around and see what I can find out. In the mean time, I would go to the EZDrummer manufacturer’s page and check to make sure that your system is compatible with that version of EZDrummer.

@Jeff
There are some good books out there on Pro Tools, such as the one by Mike Collins. However – I would recommend NOT buying a book on Pro Tools. Rather, I’d recommend a book about more general audio concepts and techniques. Sound FX is an amazing book, and everyone working in audio should pick it up. (I linked to it here)

For Pro Tools help – I would save your money and use the resources available on our sites (and others of course). We have a lot of articles and videos on many subjects from basic to advanced. Additionally, I’m always happy to answer emails/comments about programs, and would happily provide screenshots or step-by-steps to help you with what you need.

135. REJ - November 30, 2009

First I want to admit I know nothing about the Boss Br-1180. I have a person that was sent to me looking for a replacement cd-rw. I gave him one that was the same shape and size as the one he replaced. He said that the BR1180 did not “see” the new drive. I have to assume it fit because he didn’t say it was to big or small.
I know the drive works because I just used it to put XP on a laptop. I guess my question is are the slim lines interchangeable? Does he need to get one from the company?
Thanks in advance.

136. ConnorSmith - December 1, 2009

@REJ

I’ll see if we can get PJ (our resident Br-1180 expert) over here to shed some light – thanks.

137. will - December 7, 2009

Hey Connor, how are you doing. My name is will and i am an Up and Coming Artist/Producer. I watch your videos all the time on youtube and honestly I am very impressed. I’m mainly producing and recording at my home studio and i would like to know what techniques and plugins you use for Jeffrey Grace” Here we go again”.

138. ConnorSmith - December 8, 2009

@Will

Actually – I’ll have to kick you over to Damon for this one. All I did on that album was track drums on most of the tunes. He did all the production work in his studio.

From a techniques standpoint, while I haven’t dissected the mix files, I’m sure Damon got there via good use of compression and EQ. Really soon (aka I’m almost done with the first few), I’ll be posting some articles on getting your mixes going with just the basics (compression, EQ, minimal effects).

For specific plug-ins – I know Damon’s studio is centered on a slew of UAD plug-ins as well as some winners from PSP and RND (maybe he can chime in with more specifics :) in Pro Tools I really, really like the Steve Massey plug-ins. They are super cheap and sound excellent. Specifically, I most often use the compressor, limiter, and tape saturation plugs. I also use the Waves SSL bundle pretty often.

^^That being said, its really about workflow and preference. Really awesome sounds can come out of even the stock Digi Rack plug-ins. Its all in how you use the tools.

Thanks
C

139. franc stacks - December 8, 2009

why do i get pops & clicks when i record in pt8

140. ConnorSmith - December 8, 2009

@franc

Unfortunately, its really hard to help without knowing more about your setup. (Computer specs, interface, other gear, version of PT 8, etc.)

Some possible problems would be either that you are not clocking correctly (in the Setup>Hardware menu in PT) or that you need to raise up your buffer.

141. will - December 9, 2009

Thanks connor i really appreciate it.

142. will - December 9, 2009

One more thing Connor, i would really appreciate it if you could ask Damon what plugins he uses for pitch corrections and aligning vocals for harmonies or pre choruses.

143. ConnorSmith - December 9, 2009

@will

I’ll take a guess here and say there’s a 99% chance he either utilized careful amounts of Autotune (in manual mode) or just slight tweaks with Digital Performer’s (Damon’s DAW of choice) included pitch correction.

Aligning vocals is all about two things:
1) Consistently great performances from your singer, and
2) Carefully creative editing

I usually end up in Pro Tools, so I lean for Autotune + editing (as well as elastic audio). At the end of the day, its not really what model and style your hammer is, but rather how your bookcase turned out. :)

144. will - December 9, 2009

solution for long-time installing pro tools.
Encountered a loop, when pro tools (8 and new update 8.0.3) wanted to install itself. After a very short time, installation stopped and turned in a loop and didn’t go further on, even after hours.
Looking in the protocol of installation (apple-L), I remarked that the installation tried to remove the protools-Icon out of the dok and failed with this action. Here it hanged, probably forever…
After stopping the installation, removing the icon myself out of the dok and restarting the installation – everything worked just fine in short 2 minutes!

I have Pro Tools LE 7.3.1, running off of a PC, and I’m relatively new to working with the Music Production Toolkit.. Can somebody tell me which phase of the mixing process I would use the Maxim Plug In, and also if too much compression would result in a muddy vocal?

152. Gib Perkin - December 27, 2009

We have a Boss 1600 cd and we had 136 files going and we ran out of memory so our bass player (who is also our tech) said he could fix it by moving the files on to our Mac. We now know that all he had to do was hit the optimize and that would have retrieved all of the memory. NOW the problem is that his son erased all of the files and there is no way to get them back. Our boss now says we have 22 mins. of memory. Is there any way to reformat the hard drive or do we have to replace it.

153. Zach - December 27, 2009

I am downloading pro tools m-powered 8 but it keeps stalling while downloading programs it always stalls at the plug-in structure. I even left it to download over night and it didn’t start if you could please give me any information that will help me download pro tools m-powered 8 it will be much appreciated! Thank you.

154. ConnorSmith - January 2, 2010

@Ron

Maxim is a limiter, most often used on a track during the mastering process (to bring the overall volume of the track up). There are plenty of other times/places to use it, but its “intended” use is as a mix/mastering limiter.

As far as the compression question goes – the answer is yes, but it really depends on a million variables. Feel free to shoot me an email with an mp3 example or a download link to a PT session to check it out.

@Gib Perkin
I’m going to have to send you over to PJ – he is the resident expert on that unit :)

i wanna know what is the easiest and most accurate way to spot hooks

158. ConnorSmith - January 8, 2010

@josh Brown
Is this happening with any session you try, or just with one specific session? Have you trashed your preferences and databases? (If you need help on how to do that, let me know). Are your hard drives internal or external (if they are external, what brand/model)? Have you repaired permission on your hard drive?

@craig
Have you trashed your preferences and databases? That should fix that problem. Let me know if it doesn’t or you need help.

@Steamz
I don’t understand the question. When you say “spot hooks”, do you mean use spot mode to move and copy choruses? Do you mean aurally identify “hook” sections of a song?

159. Josh Brown - January 12, 2010

Thanks for the help. deleting the digidesign databases and prewference was what it needed and now its running like a champ.

160. Steamz - January 12, 2010

yes when i mean move the hook i mean the chorus of the song. im using protools, and somtimes its tough tring to fit the chorus of tha song in another part of the song. know what i mean

Hi everyone, I am considering to get an external hard drive for my Macbook Pro (that has a FireWire 800 port) and Mbox 2 Pro (that has FireWire 400 ports). The hard drive has to have both ports so I can daisy chain them. (Macbook Pro -> Hard drive via FW 800 cable -> Mbox 2 Pro via FW 400 cable). Any suggestions about which hard drive to get ? (500 GB would be pretty much ok). Could not find any recommendations on Digidesign’s website.Thanks.

162. deesto - January 21, 2010

Hey all,

I recently purchased a Tascam FireOne firewire interface. I soon afterward upgraded my PC to Windows 7, and I can no longer use the Tascam drivers. I’ve tried a few types of trickery I’ve found in articles to get Windows to use these unsigned drivers, but none have worked so far. I also have Linux installed on the same box (Fedora 12), and I’ve installed a few open-sources DAWs there, but I can’t seem to get the FireOne recognized there either. I am relatively certain that the firewire port is functioning properly: the FireOne’s LEDs all light up when it’s plugged in and turned on. I just can’t get either OS to use it. Any and all ideas would be extremely welcomed. Thanks!

163. Damon Sink - January 22, 2010

@mert: all I can recommend is reliability of drive–I don’t have any specifics about compatibility for that setup. We like Rocstor drives for externals. Have you chained the M-Box like that before with FW400?

@deesto: Sounds like you just need to push Tascam about getting those drivers updated. I’m surprised that they don’t have it covered, actually. Have you checked to see if there is a firmware update for your Firewire (card/port)? Could be an update for your mobo.

Damon

164. deesto - January 22, 2010

@Damon: thanks … have already pinged Tascam about W7 drivers, to which they replied that they simply would not create new drivers because the product is no longer active. In turn I requested an explanation as to why they couldn’t simply sign the drivers and re-release them, since the signature seems to be the problem for installing them in W7, not the drivers themselves. No response to that, so I don’t expect any miracles there, unfortunately.

The mobo (GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H) is brand new and has the latest BIOS available (v.F5), same for onboard firewire. I had the same issue with my old mobo, which was a Gateway ECS board.

Pretty frustrating. :(

165. Tam Kite - January 22, 2010

Hey, i just bough pro tools le 8 m box 2 and it lets me record audio just like it should but when it comes to playing it back through ym headphones its so fuzzy you cant even make out what intrument it is. Its that or it doesnt even play anything at all. Anyone got an ideas?

166. Damon Sink - January 22, 2010

@deesto: So Tascam have orphaned you with a FireOne? Gawd zooks… that’s not exactly an ancient piece of kit. And signing the drivers wouldn’t seem to be a huge issue, unless it reveals further incompatibilities, but still.

I am still using the first MOTU 2408 that I bought in (I think) 1999 along with a mk3 of the same unit. It is frustrating when a company like Tascam doesn’t take care of you on something this basic.

Boo! (Maybe they’ll still come through) But have you considered leaving a steaming, flaming bag of doggy… well, nevermind.

D

167. deesto - January 22, 2010

damon: yep, it seems like I have been stranded. I bought the unit under the impression that Tascam was a company that would back their products; as you said, it’s not as if this is a 10-year-old unit (although yours still works!) and there were 3 or 4 OS iterations made since it was produced. I’m pretty unhappy with them so far, as well as with the retailer, Guitar Center … though it’s not entirely clear that Guitar Center is absolutely not going to help me out, they do seem to be leaning that way as of now.

I just want something that works! Is that too much to ask?!? :(

i have a boss br 1180 and i turns on but the sceen lights up but i cant see anything do u kno wat mayb could b rong

170. deesto - January 27, 2010

damon: well that remains to be seen! We’ll see …

So I created a new XP 32-bit install just for the Fireone, and installed the drivers there, but although the DAW I installed there (Ableton Live 8) recognized it as an input device, I couldn’t get more than a single bar of input (which is inaudible) when running a guitar directly to the Fireone guitar input port, and connecting the Fireone to XP via firewire 1. Am I missing something? The documentation says it should work this way … do I still need a preamp, or an amp, or MIDI processor on top of that anyway?

171. Damon Sink - January 27, 2010

nope. It should work that way with the HiZ (guitar) input or with the XLR inputs.

I wonder if the unit itself is failing? No reason the drivers shouldn’t work under XP 32…

Do you know anybody with a mac? (Just trying to troubleshoot)

D

172. deesto - January 27, 2010

yep: I tried it on my MacBook in GarageBand and could barely hear my input, but I assumed it was just a newbie mistake I was making in the config. It does seem like the unit isn’t quite right, but GC won’t take it back (bought it 2-3 months ago) and Tascam refuses to do anything with it.

Anyway, once that’s figured out, if ever, I wouldn’t mind a DAW recommendation for someone like me, who’s been playing guitar for a while and can even program an effects processor but thinks you’d need a degree in astrophysics to lay down a riff in Ableton Live (I just wanted to record a track, not control the Hubble telescope), or maybe just a good tutorial to get started.

173. Damon Sink - January 28, 2010

Dude. That FireOne is WHACK. Make GC take care of you, bro! Send me an email, and I’ll try to get you fixed up.

Hi,

Novice here! I’ve got M-Audio and Protools 8. Playing around with XPAND2 instruments. I already used a Yamaha Keyboard to play guitars in XPAND2 using a MIDI cable.

The question is about using an analog signal from a real guitar in order to play an XPAND2 virtual guitar. How is this done?

Thanks, Jeff

175. ConnorSmith - February 15, 2010

@Jeff

Not possible – Xpand operates via MIDI data, which is not audio (MIDI is data).

You could purchase a guitar with a MIDI output (or I do believe there are some after-market MIDI guitar devices)

176. Lise Cabble - February 21, 2010

Hi

I’m about to buy a new computer because I don’t have enough power in my old one, which is:

Computernavn: Power Mac G5
Model: PowerMac7,3
CPU-type: PowerPC G5 (3.0)
Antal processorer: 2
CPU-hastighed: 2 GHz
L2-buffer (pr. CPU): 512 K
Hukommelse: 3 GB
Bushastighed: 1 GHz
Boot ROM-version: 5.2.4f1

I use Cubase 4, Soundcard Edirol and Virtual instruments like virtual guitarist and autotune etc
I would also like to use Omnisphere and Celemony Melodyne Plugin 2

I’m a professional songwriter, I’m not a producer at all, but it’s nice to be able to make some nice sounding demos.
My questions are:
1. As I often go out to others and cowrite it would be very practical with a Mac book pro, but is it strong enough for me?
2. The last couple of months I’ve had trouble with Cubase, so I gave up and tried Garageband and I actually quite liked it, because I’m not so technical and it seemed pretty easy. But can you make it sound as good as Cubase?
Hope you can give me some advice.

177. AndrewMSmith - February 21, 2010

Hey Guys,
I’m running Protools 8.0.3cs1 on a new Mac Pro running OS X 10.6.2. I’m a film composer and consequently I run a ridiculous amount of VI’s so I recently bought this computer.
I’ve run into the error code (-6101) while trying to run my scores. I’m running 2×2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon processors with 16 GB RAM. I have one internal 1 TB drive and 1 external firewire 800 7200 RPM hard drive running for audio.
The problem occurs when I’m running Kontakt 4 and PLAY running probably around 8 GB of samples loaded into RAM.
I’ve tried decreasing the processor power by 1 and currently I have it decreased by 2. I’d really appreciate any answers anyone has.

178. deesto - February 22, 2010

@Lise: first: a MBP should be more than powerful enough to handle what you need; there’s a reason those things are so expensive! Just make sure to buy as much additional RAM as you can.

2) I love GarageBand, and I personally think it’s a shame that it’s not made for Windows; I haven’t been able to find a decent replacement for my Windows boxes. I’m not sure what you mean by making it sound as good as Cubase: it’s all digital, right? ;) BTW, after just installing Cubase 4 LE and dealing with all the registration and licensing garbage it includes (which had an epic battle with my anti-malware software and screwed up my box), I’m looking for a good Windows DAW myself!

@AndrewMSmith: Unfortunately, this seems to be an ongoing problem with this hardware, possibly a driver issue. Many suggestions here:

hello to everyone…

Need mixing help and suggestions:

my problem is that I was given an old cassette tape of a heavy metal rehearsal session by the leader of the group. He wanted me to restore and clean it up… which I was able to do with iZotope RX… now he wants me to remix it so that there is the thumping bottom that is felt in a person’s chest found from a regular heavy metal mix. I can’t seem to figure out how to achieve that. Any EQ, compression, etc or other suggestion settings? I have tried using OZone, Waves L1, and basic EQ and compression.
Evidently my settings aren’t correct…. I would appreciate any help you could offer.

I use a Mac Pro Quad Core, Digitial Performer, and a lot of other plugins,

186. Damon Sink - March 19, 2010

Hi Jim,

You might try sidechaining the track (make a copy of it is the easiest way) and then use Ozone or L1 to squash the mids and hype the bass on that track, then mix the two together.

REALLY hard to make suggestions without hearing the source, though. And if the sound isn’t there in the first place, then you can’t bring it out. :)

Try using the original track (before you did the noise redux) for the sidechain too with a low pass filter. Some of the bottom might have gotten lost in the N/R.

Now anytime, anyone wants to make a new session, protools will not allow this to happen. We’ve uninstalled and reinstalled protools, and it still does the same thing. When trying to make a new session, it will say: Session must be on an audio record volume. If permitted, set the volume(s) in question to “R” (record) in the workspace.

If you have any suggestions it will be greatly appeciated!

201. Gary A - May 17, 2010

I had the same problem. You have to go to “Workspace” and set the disc that you want to save the file to to R so it can record.

202. Vinny Messina - May 19, 2010

does fast track work with ro tools LE 8

203. Eddie - May 22, 2010

MacBook Pro 10.6 OS X
Pro Tools Micro USB
installed 8.03cs2

Was running fine until I closed a session and quit PT
When I reopened Pro Tools on the Laptop, My Mouse would move in the session but not allow me to select anything.

Also “Preferences” and “Quit Pro Tools LE” are Grayed out in the drop down menu, can only force quite to get out of it.

Worked fine on my first 2 sessions then this occurred, any idea?

hey im trying to install my pro tools 8 m powered to my computer but this wierd run time error keep popping up can anybody help with this problem.

206. J. Snuggs - June 4, 2010

This message is for Gary A. I went to “workspace” in Protools 8 and switch to R to record on the external hard drives. But when i change to that, it’s saying that the drive won’t record because it’s formatted in a FAT volume. Do you have any idea what this means? To me it’s sounds like a problem with the hard drive it self. But i’m not sure, need help….thanks!

207. Gary A - June 5, 2010

I’m not sure what it means but I know the ProTools manual is very direct about suggesting that you use a hard drive specifically for ProTools files and they recommend strongly that you buy one of their drives. However, I use an external drive for all my files, not just ProTools and so far it works just fine. It sounds like you’re not using the right kind of formatted hard drive for your files. Are you using your system drive, which is the main hard drive in your computer, to save your ProTools files? If so, that’s contrary to ProTool’s advice to use a separate hard drive for storing your ProTools files.

211. Allyn Jehnzen - August 5, 2010

I have a BR 1180 Cd-R/RW. When I am recording or play back or go from bounce to master it stops. If I hit the stop, in a few seconds it will start on its own. When it stops or locks up I can tap the unit and it will be alright for the rest of the session. It keeps getting worse. It may need cleaning , I dont know.( I tap it with my finger to get it going).
Could you tell me what to do.
Thank You for any help.

213. Rich Rubin - August 8, 2010

Hi,
I recently uploaded Leopard and iLife to my Mac OSX G5. I’ve been running Pro Tools LE 6.9.2 for years with minimal problems.
I can still record a basic mono track through my mic. But now Pro tools will not let me import a basic MP3/WAV etc. It’s showing “(mp3) must be converted to be used because it is not an audio file type that Pro Tools can use directly.”
These are the same MP3′s/WAV I’ve imported before.
Please help!
Thanks,
Rich Rubin

214. eric williams - August 30, 2010

hi i just want to know how do you move a session from pro tools le 8 to another pro tools system for mixing. i work with pro tools le 8 at home and i want to take my projects to a pro studio for mixing . forgive me if youve already covered this but id really appreciate the help

215. Gary A - August 30, 2010

Hi, I’m not sure but I would guess that the easiest way would be to save your sessions to an external hard drive and take the drive with you then click on the .ptf file and open it from the other computer. I use a laptop computer so I can take my work anywhere easily. Of course you would have to have access to hardware at the new location or take your MBox or other similar type gadget with you.

216. Elton - September 19, 2010

Hi – I have Pro tools 8 LE and was working great until yesterday.
I closed the Audio Midi Setup Icon on my dock. Now PT loads and then freezes about 20% into “loading edit window”
Please advize,
Thanks

217. Elton - September 19, 2010

Hi .
My P Tools 8 LE has been working great on my mac with Snow Leopard. Since yesterday, after I closed the Midi Setup Icon on my dock. P T loads up fine until about 20% into loading Edit Window – then just freezes every time I try.
Please advise,
Thanks
Elton

218. Damon Sink - September 22, 2010

Hi Elton,

Have you tried running Audio MIDI config again? Maybe PT is looking for a setup file that has become corrupted?

Keep us posted. I don’t know how removing the Audio MIDI icon from the dock could have screwed things up–but I have a dim memory of something to do with the dock and PT launch. Try “poofing” the PT alias and dragging it in again…

Did a recording in protols last night and mixed it. When listening to the recording the vocals are sounding like the Chipmunks and the music is faster.

What is the problem? I had a problem installing until I hooked a cable directly from my MBox Pro to the computer, instead of daisy chaining it through an external hard drive.

Tech support is supposed to be available up to the installation level, at least.

Hi. I write songs and have been arranging them in Garageband.
The producer I´m working with uses ProTools in the studio. I´m planning to buy LogicPro or Pro Tools to work with at home, before I take sessions to the recording studio. I think that Logic is a better program for songwriting and arranging, but my question is: how easy, or hard, is it to use Logic-files in Pro Tools-sessions?
Thanks!

240. Glenn - February 9, 2011

PJ,
I have been looking for a CD-RW kit for the Boss BR-1180 since 2008 with no luck. I went to an audio repair shop for a guitar pedal fix and asked the tech if he knew where I could get the CD-RW kit (CDI-BR1). He called back and gave me a website called eSAITECH and said I could install a Toshiba SLIM CDRW, part # UJDA340.
Will this drive work with the BR-1180? Are the connectors compatible? I’m a musician not a tech guy so I don’t know what to ask the company to ensure the drive will work. I really just want to plug the sucker in and start recording. What can I do or what questions should I ask?
there’s also this one that I found this on Ebay, will it work?

242. Justin L. Dinkins - February 13, 2011

I am currently working on a 2007 IMac 20″ with Pro Tools working on vocals. Today when I try to open a recent session, an error message came up about invalid boundary and deleting of some the regions. Once the filed open the audio played back with with a high pitch chipmunk voice. Is there any way I can solve this problem?

243. ConnorSmith - February 13, 2011

@Jay

It could be any number of things – but to solve it, we’ll need a lot more information.

We’ll need everything from your computer specs, to when the problem started, has it ever worked, what instruments are we talking aout, etc.? The more info you can provide, the better.

@Justin
I haven’t heard of that one yet!

If I was in that position, I would first open a backup file of it (in your project folder, there’s a sub folder of session backup files).

See what happens with a few versions. I don’t think it’s related, but a quick delete of pref and database files is worth a try.

Also, just like my response to Jay, it will be easier to solve with more information.

244. Justin L. Dinkins - February 14, 2011

Thanks for such a quick response !

I checked my backup and they are sounding the same also. The weird part us, during my initial recording and playback it did not sound that way. During this session I have a (4)- Tracks and (2)-Auxilary tracks. The breakdown us below:

1- Mono Audio Track: Instrumental

1- Mono Audio Track: Lead Vocals.
This track has to Auxilary tracks attached for dverb and delay. It sends out through bus. 1-4 for these two. The corresponding aux tracks inputs are set up to match each bus as well.

1- Mono Audio Track: Lead vocal stack. No effects, just panned to left to create a full vocal sound.

1- Mono Audio Track: Lead vocal stack. No effects, just panned to right to create a full vocal sound.

1- Stereo Auxilary Track: For Dverb on lead vocal track. Output is set as bus. 1-2 and sent from lead vocal track 1.

1- Stereo Auxilary Track: For delay/reverb on lead vocal track. Output is set up as bus. 3-4 and it sent from Lead vocal track 1.

Like I stated before prior to me switching to another session everything playedback great. However, once switching to another session for five minutes and returning the error message stating about invalid boundaries and some regions were deleted or adjusted. I click save report, open the session and it plays Back like “chipmunks on ice”. My voice sounded as if I was singing with helium in my lungs.

If this may not be a technical problem is there an effect I can use to stabilize the sound and get it back to the full bass sound I heard during my initial recording, because all of my backup files sound as such, when I know during my initial recording and play back it did not.

I am using an Avid M-Box Mini (black and purple looking one). I purchased this brand new about two months ago. I used the Pro Tools cd out of the box. My mic is a MXL 2006.

Thanks for your help. I hope this is all the additional info needed to help me resolve this issue.

Thanks for your help again.

245. ConnorSmith - February 14, 2011

@Justin

I’ll still need more info about your system – computer and OS specs especially. Also, what version of Pro Tools are you using?

After some research, I’m going to assume it’s 8.01 – 8.04? While there is a known bug concerning the “invalid boundaries” message, this doesn’t explain your chipmunk voice.

My guess on that is it involves a sample rate problem. While I haven’t run into your problem before, here is what I would do as a first troubleshooting step:

1) Look in your session to find the name of your voice recording region (it will be a name on the region in the mix window). Close Pro Tools, navigate to your project’s audio files folder and find that same vocal file. Play it back in iTunes (Winamp, Quicktime, anything non-DAW to playback audio) and see if it’s still chipmunked.

Let me know how that test goes (as well as about your computer, operating system, Pro Tools version, etc.).

246. djcarter - February 21, 2011

when im using protools my computer is freezing up.why?

247. ConnorSmith - February 21, 2011

@djcarter

Unfortunately, it’s impossible to troubleshoot your problem when we know nothing about your system. We are going to need a LOT more information – everything from computer hardware, operating system and version, pro tools version, 3rd party plug-ins, peripherals, HDD setup, when and in what way is it freezing?, etc etc.

Check out this post, get us more information, and I bet we can get your problem fixed:

when loading protools 8 m powered it always stops the open process when i get to the plugins at the startup, and it allways stops at the plugin Xpand!.dpm I am running windows 7 homepremium, and would very much like to get this working. thank you

249. ConnorSmith - February 23, 2011

@kevin

First try trashing your preferences and databases
http://thestudiofiles.com/?p=983

If that doesn’t work, I’d move the xpand.dpm file out of your plug-ins folder and see what happens.

Let us know if that works.

Two questions for PT8
1. – Is there a way to change the color of the notes I pencil in while in the MIDI edit screen? I want my notes in a different color than the default.

2. – How do I adjust the tuning of the mini-grand plug-in so it is spot-on with my guitar track?

Sometimes my computer shuts down as soon as i click on the pt icon, it freezes mid session and sometimes it freezes even before i try to open pt. I’m sure it must be to do with the installation but i’ve un installed and re intalled several times now. One thing that happens whilst installing is a message appears at the bottom of the screen which says hardware divice drivers were not successfully installed but then carries on to the end of the insallation. vince, the avid website has a patch for PT8 that fixes the bugs for windows 7 at first i tired loading PT8 without my mbox2 pluged in then plugging in when it tells me and this worked untill I now run it off my 1tb ehd

We have been using ProTools 6.9 for 4 years with the HD plugins that came with it on Windows XP.
We then had to have new C Drive. Windows OS reinstalled of course. I updated software/drivers from iLok (although I’m not completely sure we need this as it’s an older version) and the key we have has never had a chip in it etc…we didn’t actually do the initial installation of PT. So I loaded PT 6.9, opened a session file, played a few secs. all fine. Then I loaded the free plugins from the HD disk, opened PT, session ran fine. Then I loaded joemeekcompressor and meequaliser and PT hangs ! Is it possible it takes a VERY long time? When I force close box says ‘no responding’ so it can’t be that? I’m not an expert, but we have produced 5 albums on this gear, and are happy with it. What have I done wrong? Is there a reason PT won’t load the plugins?
Thank you

I’ve been using this machine for about a year, and this problem started two days ago. Hey Guys–

Hope all is well. Wondering if you’d had a chance to sit down with Reason 6 yet…I just got my upgrade and needless to say, I am quite excited about using it as my one-stop shop, but it is a lot different from Reason 4, which is what I had been using. Until now, I’d been doing all of my midi work in Reason 4 and then exporting the audio files to Logic Pro 8. Would appreciate any discussion regarding the latest and greatest from propellerhead.

Thanks!

Hello

Thanks for the article on getting Garage Band tracts into a DAW found here.
http://thestudiofiles.com/?p=204

I followed your directions and now have an .aif file on my desktop. I go into reason 6 put in a NN-19 and can find the file and play the file in the load window. I can not figure hout how to send that file to the track window any suggestions?

Thanks

266. Damon Sink - November 7, 2011

Hi Ray,

You’ll have to trigger that file to play in the NN-19 with a MIDI note–but Reason 6 now has audio tracks, which is what you need. Set up an audio track and drag that aif in to it.

I’m using Pro Tools 8 LE with a Digidesign M Box 2 on a Dell Dimension 5100 with a Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.80GHZ 2.79GHZ w 4.00GB (3.62usable) of RAM on a 32 bit operating system using Windows 7 Ultimate.

The problem I’m having is that when I go to record it has a long delay and when it does start there’s no signal.

Can you help me with this prob or should i just downgrade back to using Pro Tools 7 and switch back to windows XP?

Hello all,
I am way behind the times and have some questions….Not being computer saavy either. Her is what I have….

I have an Mbox2 mini which came with Pro tools 8 software. I am currently trying to install this on the following computer…

Dell Vostro A860
rating 2.6 windows experience index
Processor- Intel Celeron (R) CPU [email protected] 2.13GHz
Memory- 1GB
System type- 32 bit OS
Windows Vista Home basic
Svc.pack 1

I am getting an error between 5% and 15% install that goes as follows

Program Files- common
E:\pro tools LE installer\data2.cab
data error(cycle redundancy check

When I hit ok it the goes to…

Couldn’t launch digiSPTI service
error:-1

Then it reverts back to the original setup menu.

I have a feeling it’s my system, but that is where the un computer saavy kicks in.

If you could help that would be great.

When I try to start up my Pro Tools, a box appears that reads:

Assertion in “Volumes/Development/vb_leopard_r2/AlturaPorts/NewFileLibs/CoreFoundation/MacBuild/../../Sys/MacOS/Sys_FileLocMacOS.cpp”, line 227.

This basically didn’t happen until I placed the “Pro tools” icon in the Trash of my computer. I immediately took it back out, but this is now the issue. What can I do to fix this?

280. Christopher Howard - March 7, 2012

My name is chris, first let me just ask my first question. If you lost the box the the mbox came in how do retrieve the serial number and other info necessary to register the product. Now to my dilemma, as I was running my protools and I was playing a reciently recorded song on maximum volumn on the mbox. A message came on the screen say buffer size to big need to decreSe it. I left the room when I came bck the volumn is low. I decreased and increased the buffer sizes tht didnt work, I tried resetting the output because tht sounded like the problem but it didnt work. It also soumd low when im not operating protools. It sounds low when listenin to music through windows media player. Now since the mbox is hooked up I know the computer uses the mbox sound card. I think the sound card need to be replaced but im not sure I need some help please!

Hello!

I am so frustrated right now and just want there to be a solution. I’ve seen my problem in a few places on this site but nothing helps me.
My computer:

Microsoft Windows XP
Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
E7300 @ 2.66GHz
2.94GB of RAM

Basically, I reformatted my hard drive the other day because of problems I was having with Pro Tools 8.0 M-Powered on Windows XP Sp2. When I reformatted I installed Sp3 and now when I try to launch it ALWAYS freezes while “Launching Plugins: Xpand!.dpm”

I updated to 8.0.5, I uninstalled internet explorer, tried moving the plugin, updated the plugin (even though the only update for it I could find was for Pro Tools 7), reinstalled protools, updated the drivers for my M-Audio Delta 1010, trashed the preferences… I’ve been trying whatever I can think of and its just not working and frankly starting to have me feeling pretty pissed. If anyone is out there please help :-(

Hi , im Rob
iMac 2.5GHZ intel core i5..4GB memory 1333MHZ DDR OSx lion
Logic Pro 9
using a BR-800 standalone digital recorder as interface
TC-Helicon Voicelive2 vocal processor.
i saw your video on youtube for aux sends & returns which was very informative , i have searched the web looking for info regarding using th VL2 to add a vocal effect on to a dry recording , i believe i need a guitar track left channel , and a vocal track right channel , i then need to send both tracks to the VL2 , the guitar track gives the VL2 the key for the harmony to add to the right track , this then returns to logic so i can record it with the effect.
somebody mentioned i also needed to create an aggregate device on the mac for it to recognise the VL2.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Regards
Robert

I`v been using PTools 8 HD with Pro Control board since one year from now and it has never been a problem. However, form some days to now, it just don`t recognize the boar anymore. If i go to ethernet peripherals and ask for scan, it recognizes the Pro control, but when i`m going to assign that and press OK, it freezes.

When I push the On/Off button on my Boss BR-1600, the unit powers up and the green display lights up, showing the make and model number. Lights on the function buttons light up momentarily, then go off. The unit will not ‘boot up’ and the display remains on. I have tried turning the unit off and then on numerous times but the problem remains. The unit has not been abused in anyway.

Hallo there, and a big hallo from Belgium ! About a week ago I bought a Boss/Roland BR1180CD second hand but I’m afraid the crook “saw me coming”… . Though the machine starts normally (checking… complete), navigation in the “UTILITY” menu is totally impossible. The cursor wan’t move to the left, nor to the right. The only thing I can do there is to Enter and change the intensity of the LCD contrast because the cursor is kind’a fixed on this position/icon in this menu. No possibility to navigate to any other item there. ‘Exit’ gives the initial menu and shows everytime song11 (??). Pressing “Play” results only in advancing the counter digits (of that song ?), but no playback at all ! So in fact no changes of choises whatever can be made. The HD seems to be OK (blinking access light). Inserting the separate (drum loop) CD-RW and picking “loop phrase import”, shows the cd’s content in a separate menu. Up and down navigation there is no problem, making choises (right cursor) is impossible !? I was able to do several test recordings with rithm track and play-back, so this far the machine is working well. I wonder what in heavens sake is the reason why the navigation in the menus is impossible ? I’d be tremendously thankful if you can help me in any way. Thanks in advance.

Hello please help. I recently purchased an HP pavilion 15 notebook pc. Now I am trying to install pro tools LE 7. I am also using an mbox 2 , both of which were purchased as a package deal around 2005. My desktop died so I upgraded to the hp laptop. The problem is when I plug in the mbox and start the installation a popup from the installsheld wizard appears that says ” installation and operation of pro tools LE requires windows XP with SP 2.” My operating system is windows 8.1, with an intel core I 7, 2 GHZ processor. 6.0 gb of ram. 750 GB hard drive. I don’t have a clue what to do. I am so disappointed please help.
