^^ I am actually very happy with Pro Tools LE

Although I use Logic for a lot of things, I definitely use Pro Tools more.

For me, the ability to transfer to the “big studios” without a hiccup is a huge bonus. Plus, I find the user interface very friendly, and the editing is the bomb.

I find Le more than enough for my needs. I have a basic home studio for more of personal project stuff and local bands to cut demos. I recently made the big platform switch to Mac, and am much happier with the experience overall, not just with PT’s, so I can wait a little till they have it right and out, The Logic thing just didn’t work for me, it was like starting over and learning a new program that I just couldn’t get a hold of, so for what I do I stick with what I know, down the road, maybe I’ll be using something that hasn’t been invented yet but we’ll see, thanks for letting me rant

I think Digidesign probably realizes that they need some big changes, but have some things holding them back. ADC (for plug-ins) is obviously a really important feature that Pro Tools is missing. Since HD’s compensation is tied into the hardware (and uses DSP chips…), it might cause problems if LE had it standard now.

Limited tracks stinks too… any other DAW you use has unlimited tracks. Again, in HD, the number of guaranteed tracks are tied to the hardware. No surround in LE (almost any other DAW, Logic, DP, etc) will do surround out of the box.

I have Logic installed and use it a lot. But, I still use Pro Tools for a lot of things. I find that the audio editing is second to none. Its so fast and simple with the keyboard focus. Zooming in and out is super easy… etc. I also really like that it is such a simple (even a little boring) user interface. The colors are very distinguishable, buttons are logically placed, etc.

Elastic audio is also a REALLY awesome feature. But, it has us LE people wondering: why do we have that feature, but still miss a lot of the basic functionalities of other DAWs…

Oh well. I heard some cool things are coming in Pro Tools 8 (like elastic pitch!). Lets hope that includes some more basic features…

Hopefully both companies release some solid updates. But really, I think that LE users don’t have much motivation to stay with Pro Tools at this point. With all that it costs; you’ve got to pay for MPTK and DVTK2 to get close to Logic’s stats not to mention the other apps they bungle with it.

Here’s to hoping! Only got 1:21 left until we see.

Yeah…
From what I have heard, its actually the bugs in Leopard that are causing all the problems. Now, granted I heard that from a few Digidesign people, so they could just be covering themselves. But, look at the problems Logic Studio is having with Leopard, and its a little easier to believe the ball is stuck in Apple’s court.

In the end, no matter who is causing the problems, I think its Digidesign that has to take the brunt of it. Lots of PT users are heading over to Logic, and Digidesign I’m sure is scrambling to get this update released. But, at the same time, they need to take the time to make sure everything is PERFECT in it. If they gave us a buggy update that didn’t work after waiting 4-5 months, the mob would come out with pitchforks and torches.

Personally, I am crossing my fingers and hoping that the update will come ASAP.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I think it’s pretty lame to take a full 4 months to get your bread-winning software compatible with a major OS release (major in our industry, anyway). I understand it can take a long time to work out fixes on OS update but it’s not like their first look at Leopard was on 10/26.

On the other hand, I don’t know that Apple didn’t somewhat stonewall Digi on pre-release development. It seems like a shady business tactic, but one that actually makes sense since Logic is making a forceful intrusion into the LE user-base and continues to gain popularity in the pro market.
