Yeah… 10.5.2 has caused a lot of problems. If you can get the installer for 10.5.1, that will probably help.

But! 10.5.3 should be out very very soon (like within the week supposedly). I would upgrade to that and try it out before you go to Tiger.

I too am having problems. I upgraded from Tiger to Leopard 10.5.2 on my macbook pro 2.3 running logic 8. Logic takes forever to launch. The audio and midi sync warning comes up a lot and various other smaller gremlins are at work.
I’ve tried trashing the preference folder in Logic and I still get the same deal. I’m out of ideas.
I’m working on a cruise ship and don’t have access to my Tiger to downgrade, if that is even possible now.

Did you have a problem with 10.5.1?
I am running Logic on 10.5.1 with really no problems.

Actually most people I talk to say that 10.5.2 is worse for CoreAudio, even though it was supposed to fix a lot of problems. You may want to try downgrading (although I know its a pain…). Also, people generally have been having better luck with “wipe clean” installs, rather than just upgrading from a previous version, or from Tiger. (Again, sorry, I know its a pain to reinstall everything.) Also, there’s no guarantee that it will make a difference…

Kinda convoluted that Apple’s own operating system doesn’t work well with its flagship audio program…

I’m having a heck of a time with my MacBook Pro running 10.5.2 and Logic Studio 8. My stuff was working flawlessly until I upgraded to Leopard. I held off till 10.5.2 was released, and now I regret having upgraded. I’m finding that audio just stops arbitrarily, but seems to be related to actual playing of audio. Meaning, once audio output start happening, it’s only a matter of a 20 to 40 seconds before the audio just stops. It will look and act like it is still “playing” (meters in Logic show that they’re doing what they’re supposed to do), but all audio has stopped. My interface is M-Audio Fast Track Pro, which I NEVER had a problem with until 10.5.2.

Well, actually Pro Tools LE is working well on Windows XP too (and has been for awhile). That being said, Sonar is a great program too. Pro Tools also works on both Macs and PCs, so many people value that added transferability.

Pro Tools may not seem like a great value up front (although I actually think it is) because the hardware is linked to the software, which makes the price “jump up”. Its also lacking a few features that other DAWs (of equivalent costs) such as unlimited track counts and ADC (automatic delay compensation–at least for plug-ins). However, the hardware is quality and there are a lot of different options in the entry market. Pro Tools LE is also popular, because home studio owners can start a project on their system and easily transfer to a professional studio (who very often run Pro Tools HD).

This article is actually about Apple’s Logic Studio, I was just referring to using Digidesign hardware with Logic, as many people are using Logic in lieu of Pro Tools while we wait for compatibility (which Digidesign is working hard to accomplish) which should happen soon.
