It can record 48 tracks at a time, which is surely enough to handle almost anything you can throw at it. Unfortunately, its a little out of the price range of a lot of people (especially when just used as a backup device).

That unit bridges the gap between hard disk recorders and the computer-based DAW. It has firewire and USB ports, and even an output for a computer monitor. It has software which allows you to edit and mix (with support for third party plug-ins. Its really awesome.
