Pro Tools a…z Mode?? December 14, 2009

I’ve noticed a few people ending up on the site while searching for this^^

Those buttons (located at different parts of both the edit and mix window) turn on/off keyboard focus, which is an editing mode that greatly reduces the need for modifier keys (like ctrl, option, and command).  Each editing command is set to a single keystroke.

Part of the reason Pro Tools is well loved in the industry is because of its excellent implementation of keyboard-based functions.  Keyboard Focus mode is an obvious example of this (where each key on the keyboard is a hotkey for a task, eliminating the need for modifier keys).  In a sort of slightly random method, I am going to run through some of my most-used commands and give some suggestions on when to use them.  Also – if you have a function you’d like to know more about, post in the comments, and I can help. Build a Home Studio for Under $1500 February 17, 2008

Round 2 of suggestions for equipping a home studio! This time, I am going to work with a little bigger budget. We will assume, as in the earlier post that you already have a computer (PC or Mac) to record with. But, if you are looking for a great computer for this type of studio, check out the Apple iMac . Whichever model you get, be sure to snag a RAM upgrade. I would also suggest an external firewire hard drive to use to record. While you can use the system drive, you will get much better performance by dedicating an external drive for audio. On to the studio! This setup, like the last one, will have everything you need to record music, create songs and beats with MIDI, and mix your projects.
