GarageBand ‘09 – What would you like to see? August 10, 2008
Posted by PJ in : Chit Chat, GarageBand , trackbackGarageBand ‘08 added some great new features to the platform – full automation, multi-take recording, visual EQ, a real compressor, notation printing and a whole lot more. Apple even included a feature for non-musicians called Magic GarageBand along with a tweaked UI. All of these features helped build upon the core of GarageBand 3 and flesh out an already stellar program.
So with the “special event” Apple has planned in September looming on the horizon, is anyone expecting a new iLife or GarageBand announcement to accompany the unveiling of the Macbook redesign? I certainly am and here’s what I would like to see in the next iteration of GarageBand:
- New Software Instruments
- New Effects (and more per track)
- A Dedicated Mixer
- A “Live” feature like Mainstage to replace Magic GarageBand
- New Jam Packs!!
So what would you like to see in the next GarageBand? Or is this all wishful thinking and we won’t see a new iLife until 2010? Let us know in the comments!

Ok – What I’d like to see in a new GarageBand is really simple: a larger VU meter! I guess my eyes are getting old – but I’d like to be able to read levels at a distance, and a larger VU strip would help.
Yes! Thank you Rick. By the way, Apple announced their big event will be next Tuesday, September 9th. Hopefully we’ll hear something then.
control surface support.
ability to program chord/key changes.
ability to record multiple software tracks simultaneously using multiple midi controllers… i.e. a drummer playing e-drums, and a keyboardist on a keyboard controller.
right clickable audio editing features in the edit pane such as reverse and strip silence.
more jampacks.

I know I’m a little late in this posting but MAN would I like to see them add in Garageband the ability to “Export to greeting -iPhone” so that your outgoing message on your iPhone can be made custom from Garageband AND would sound a LOT better than the cheesy little mic on the iPhone.
Also… the ability to record and control and EXTERNAL Synth/module instead of only being able to use Software Instruments.
I’d like to see the ability to turn off the metronome permanently, true NON-SNAPPING – when I turn off grid snapping, it still snaps a bit.
An actual Mixing consoule!
